trust me, I get enough of SLO wild life. I ran all around Madonna Mountain today with Mission Prep, and got lost sadly.
2 more shopping centers in SLO and Macy's replacing Mervyn's isnt going to kill SLO.
And Super Wal-Mart is already going in a shopping center.
I dont see how ppl are against 2 more shopping centers, and Super Wal-Mart. It's like u guys would rather see shopping centers torn down.

I definitely wouldn't mind seeing a few shopping centers torn down... unfortunately that would be a loss of jobs for some people and I am definitely against that. Of course, if some centers were torn down and rebuilt to look nicer I'd be for that. I just don't believe in covering the beautiful land we have with concrete and asphalt is the way to go. I haven't even had time to go into most of the stores in the area, they all sell the same thing anyway.

The Central Coast is so beautiful, relaxed and lowkey. I am surprised at all of discussions with regards to shopping, malls and big box stores. That is something I am trying to avoid.
However, I agree with Jet Jockey that a certain amount of retail is in order for jobs, etc. Covering the land with asphalt just causes another giant heat island. Dirt and grass is so much better.
Didn't Alex Madonna try that 30 years ago when he bulldozed his way up one of the San Luis hills? I believe he wanted to build a swiss chalet and aerial tram to the top. But, the City shot him down.
But anyway, enjoy what you have and if you have the urge to shop until you drop go to the BayArea or LA.

Exactly! I dont think he realizes the $$ that tourism draws to SLO. Make SLO look like OC and there is no reason to come to SLO. You need tourists to spend dollars at the shops downtown on thier way to and from the wineries and Hearst Castle. They dont come to SLO to shop at Wallyworld!

That would have been something else. I read where he said he was in ill health at the time he wanted to build that, so he decided to let it go instead of fighting with the city. That would be a HUGE tourist attraction today. Too bad.

It might not kill SLO but, it could set a bad precedent. The reason the Central Coast is so special is because you don't have all of that development and congestion.
I moved here from SoCal and the quality of life is so much better because you don't have all of that stuff.
I was in Gilroy a couple of weekends ago and the traffic and congestion was horrendous. You couldn't find any parking, the stores were too crowded ... not a pleasant experience at all. I couldn't wait to get out of there.

Alright, then what about this...
how about just Prefumo Creek Commons(Target, Party America, Chili's, New Frontiers)next to Costco
and Macy's replacing Mervyn's in Madonna Plaza for San Luis Obispo
that means, we can all live without the San Luis Obispo Promenade 2 on Ernie Dalidio's land.
And then I still believe we need Super Wal-Mart in Atascadero since it's being added to a shopping center already in the area. the city needs the tax revenue to fund colony square centre which will have the new movie theater.
and then Golden Hills Plaza in Paso Robles with Lowe's is already in construction.
