Well, that's what I think.
But when I talked to my accounting teacher that was used to be a Macy's manager. She said that Macy's wouldn't buy out Gottschalks because most of their locations they couldn't use, Gottschalks is not profittible, and they would more than likely just take over a couple of their stores.

In the likelihood that Gottschalks isn't bought by Macy's, and say it's not bought or bought out by JcPenney's or Belks or Dillards then I say Macy's would be a perfect fit for the development adjacent to Home Depot. Macy's, CVS Pharmacy, Quizno's, and PacSun would fit great into the expansion to the Irish Hills Plaza.
For the folks that don't know, here's what is in that area, and is planned to come:
Irish Hills Plaza:
1)Costco
2)Home Depot
3)Old Navy
4)Circuit City
5)Office Max
6)PetSmart
7)Linens N Things
8)BevMore
9)Nails Spa
10)Good Ole Burger
11)Panda Express
12)Vitamin Shoppe
13)One Way Boardshop
14)It's a Grind Coffee
Maybe
15)Macy's
16)CVS Pharmacy
17)PacSun
18)Quizno's
Prefumo Creek Commons (other side of Circuit City)
1)Target
2)LA-Z-Boy?
3)New Frontiers
4)Chipotle?

Goodbye charm. Hello mediocrity. What a shame.
And FYI--that is not the type of development project that Macys is typically interested in. They (like all chains) have a certain expansion prototype that they look for--and these outdoor mega-store complexes are not development that they usually pursue.

They were interested in building one of their prototype stores in San Luis Obispo in 2002 and 2006, so in 2010 (when the economy is good) they may consider coming back to San Luis Obispo again. The prototype store is 110,000sq. ft. (two stories-55,000sq.ft. per level) and they tend to be out of malls and out of lifestyle centers. Montanna and smaller states have a lot of these Macy's stores, but so far none are in California.

Right. And the development you're discussing is neither of these.
And as someone who has worked for the City of SLO's planning dept, let me say that news of stores being "interested in" building in SLO is often rather exaggerated.

You must have missed the "out of malls and out of lifestyle centers" part. The prototype store goes in big box centers.
Development and talk of new stores is slow everywhere. So don't give me that crap. Everyone knows when the housing crisis is over that retail development and housing development will be up again.
I encourage SLO Promenade 2 LLC and Madonna Enterprises to further their projects that will bring a Target shopping center, Kohl's shopping center, and a Macy's to SLO.

I'm not giving you "crap." I'm giving you realistic information based on years of working in the planning/development field--specifically in the city you're discussing. While you might not be interested in reality, others who are reading might be. Anyway, my frame of reference for the rumors of store openings is over the last 12 years or so, not just during the current economic situation.

Duly noted. A Target, a Kohls, AND a Macys. My, my.

You might consider what Adriatica is saying in light of your own knowledge.
Macys was rumored in 2002 but that fell through. The rumors then shifted that they would build the prototype store in Visalia to try it in a smaller California city. Of course neither city has seen them.
In larger cities it is Nordstroms that is always rumored. They are always dangled out by developers or requested by citizens.
Kohls and/or Target? Sure, they fit right in with the right shopping center in SLO. One (or both) of those will probably happen when the economy picks up.
But Macys is always rumored. Until there is a signed deal AND construction started I wouldn't expect them.

If you are really following chains you might watch for Qdoba. They are franchising fast in California.
Qdoba Mexican Grill :: Fresh Burritos, Tacos, Nachos, and Salads Made to Order
I'm not much of chain food person myself. When I travel I want to eat in something different, and at home I support local restaurants so that there is variety.

You know, as someone interested in a career in city planning, you sure don't know how to respect people! Here comes someone with actual experience in the very profession and location that you are obsessed with, and this is how you respond to them?!?! You need to grow up, shut up, and learn some manners!
That statement was way out of line and I think you owe Adriatica a polite apology.

Really? I've always wanted ask something about Froom Ranch. Development exploded there, stores went up one right after the other. And you really didn't hear all that about it, at least the city seems pretty welcoming. Now revert back to the first store to go out there, Home Depot, and the hell the city put Alex Madonna through before he could build HD on HIS ranch. I realize Army Corps. had issues too, but he city demonized that guy, the attitude of the city was not welcoming. Alex Madonna even considered making Froom Ranch a hog farm to spite the city for all the garbage they were putting him through. Now look at the place, everything is out there. Did the city get a taste of that money? Make no sense. Not that Im opposed, I welcome it. But the attitute and actions of the city from the beginning, considering what's there now, was shameful. By no means am I directing this at you, I hope you don't take it that way. To me it's just mind boggling. Froom Ranch is a nice shopping center, I wonder how close it came to being a hog farm?
