We have Twin Cities community hospital in Templeton, French Hospital in SLO and Sierra Vista in SLO. Most doctors are too full of patients (it took an act of begging to be accepted by my current doctor) so be careful.
The health care around here is average I suppose, but if you're looking for a job (especially in retail) be VERY careful... I've had the old bait and switch pulled on me regarding providers.
I've had great luck with Sierra Vista and French (very nice people, attentive etc.) but have yet to have a decent experience at Twin Cities, so I'd recommend staying away from that particular hospital.

Thank you JetJocky for the information.
I am surprised there is a doctor shortage in such an attractive area. I would have thought that more doctors would want to relocate.

I believe San Luis Obispo County doctors and hospitals get reimbursed at a lower rate from MediCal/Medicare and many insurance providers than other areas. The Central Coast is considered rural which typically means low cost, but that isn't true along the coast.
Given the higher cost of living with a low reimbursement rate the area is not as attractive to doctors, particularly new doctors with high medical school debt.

I am aware they are going to build more Bloomingdales. Perhaps that is what they r building around Phoenix?
Just off the top of my head. Say Rosseti Company, the owners of Madonna Plaza, knew they could get Macy's. Then I think perhaps one day Macy's could replace Mervyn's since Mervyn's has a reputation of going out of business in places. Of course, since Mervyn's is leased at anytime they could sell that building to Macy's and Macy's could remodel that building into a two story and perhaps turn that shopping center into a mall. But, its just a thought.

No, they are straight Macy's stores not Bloomies. Bloomingdales will open in Phoenix in 2010 at CityNorth along with a Macy's store (yes both in the same shopping center). But the other 2 announced are Macy's. So that means a total of 4 stores around Phoenix announced, 3 Macy's and 1 Bloomies.
They have also announced this year plans for another Las Vegas Macy's store in 2009
Press Release - Macy's, Inc.=
and a Macy's in Sarasota, Florida in 2010.

As I said unfortunately your source is not up on everything going on at Macy's.

Just curious--have people discovered the wonderfulness of POZO yet and began moving/building out that way? I hope not. I remember the 1st time i found the dirt road from Lopez Lake to Pozo and took a drive down it. WOW! And what do i discover at the other end of the road? A saloon! i will never forget that day. I hope Pozo stays small and uncrowded.

If I remember right French was a cardiac hospital where Sierra Vista was less specialized. But i left SLO along time ago and it could have changed.

It's got an amazing cardiac unit, but also houses many 'regular' doctors offices and has a great womens health area, ICU, birthing center and oncology unit.
All in all I'd chose French over Sierra Vista anyday.
