Default What the hell is wrong with the No on 8 people?

Im gay and would love nothing more than to be able to marry.

However,
1. That commercial with Mayor Newsom even makes me cringe

2. This 1st grade teacher in SF took her class on a field trip to watch her get married to her lesbian partner.

3. A catholic parishoner was passing out Yes on 8 signs and was assaulted in Modesto.

4. I heard on the radio this morning how No on 8 folks are being confrontational around the Bay Area.

A few weeks ago, No on 8 was ahead in the polls and now its failing. This means that people were on our side but now we are losing. Perhaps if we had run a better campaign, our message wouldnt have been so diluted by stupidity.

People think that No on prop 8 is a slam dunk & aren't concerned. Is there polling that has says otherwise? I have seen the commercials. For a few days there was an uproar in LA over Pepperdine university's name under the professor's name. But the dean chastised the professor & demanded that prop 8 withdrawn the school's name.

Those fundie\evangelical commercials are a laugh & most Californian's are Democratic, so what's to worry about?

Is there a pro-gay commercial other than the one featuring a bride struggling to get to the altar? [sort of a sad theme]. I haven't seen that commercial for over a month.

Latest Poll by CBS 5 San Francisco
Yes on 8-47%
No on 8-42%

Actually 60% of Californians are against Gay Marriage but 20% are not sure that govt should involve themselves. So that's the 20% we are trying to convince. It becomes difficult to convince them with such antics. I mean, 1st graders? How idiotic is that?

I can't believe a teacher was that stupid to do that. Even if its in SF and all the parents approved, that is a huge mistake and just giving the opposition A LOT of ammunition. How could anyone in their right mind think that was a good idea?

Yeah that Newsom commercial is really bad, I can easily see people allowing themselves to get influenced by it. Outside of SF very few people like him.

Some people in the Bay Area take their politics way too far and it turns off moderate voters, the ones that actually decide an election. I don't like to admit it but the "yes on 8" people are running a much better and more effective campaign. I think it would be horrible if 8 passed but that campaign really needs to get their stuff together if they even want to have a chance.

It's the opposite where I am, I've put up three signs stating my no on prop 8 affiliation, two have disappeared and one was replaced with a Yes on prop 8 sign. I've been called a Heathen and even had a parent threaten to take her kid out of my 4h group (I'm a leader and visibility director) because of my 'no on prop 8' bumper sticker.

Nearly my entire area are neo-con McCain supporters and I think I'm the only one on my street that has an Obama and No on 8 sign out (it's in my window, I wouldn't dare put it on my lawn...).

I think thats a major part of the problem. Whether or not people are gay, most people don't like the in your face tactics that some folks take. I could care less if a gay person got married, it's not my life, but I do care if my son in 3rd grade has a field trip to a wedding where his teacher marries her lesbian fiancee.

One of the primary commercials being run by the Yes campaign is the one that talks about gradeschool students being taught about gay marriage in Massachusetts(or whatever state it is back east). They're appealing to the moderate middle class parent that plays a major part in ballot measure here and, honestly, it's a valid point if they are representating the truth correctly. People want to teach their own morals to their children, and I'd be willing to bet they'd place their children over voting no on this measure if they felt that it would expose the children to things the parents do not want them exposed to.

I live in the gay state and can tell you that they definitely made that up.
