Ca bound--maybe (Sacramento, San Bernardino: rent, how much, transfer)

Hey guys-may have a change in plans about where to retire

May have to live somewhere around LA for my sons career(acting and modeling)

I`m retired so I don`t need a job just want to be near to my son and DIL
to help them out for now..

I have a CCL in Va-and I hear the gun laws are bad in Ca.

I wonder about the gangs, the traffic, because of cost of housing -will likely rent because this is not a permanet move-later looking at South Dakota,Idaho,Oregon,Colorado or Montana

I lived in Sacramento back in the 70s-a big difference now I bet.

Could you list a few towns that may be nice with a good medical support and not a terrible drive to La.

Hi Mike
The gun laws are not really bad, but strict. All transfers have to be done within the law. Many other states do not control transfers on used guns.
A CCL is hard to get in LA county, unless you are a celebrity. Some counties up north it is a matter of a class and $100.

If you stick to better neighborhoods you will likely never see the gangs.

I don't know to much about LA but 45K sound low to me and I do know you can forget the concealed wepon permit in LA.
I'm sure someone who knows about how much it will cost to live there will chime in.

I can't give a source for this....maybe a google search will yield the exact number, but someone recently said that around $70K a year is a living wage in SoCal. Housing is more, but a lot of other things will gouge the pocketbook too, so that sounds about right for what we've experienced....and we don't even live near the city.

In Calif it's knows as a CCW permit (Carrying Concealed Weapon) and it's up to the counties to decide who gets one. Calif is a "may issue" state, not "shall issue". For example, the Sheriff of L.A. County prides himself on not issuing any to anyone.... but go to the next county North, which is Kern County, and you have a good chance of getting one.

It depends on where you live and what you do. You need to show cause.

San Bernardino County will issue you a CCW as long as your background is clean and its a lot more affordable that LA county and is not too far from LA
