What's a good area to live in Southern California???????
I'm not from California, but I'm thinking about taking a job in Pasadena. Is a job making $100K to $130K enough to live on in the surrounding area, with a family.

No, we don't, we were only looking to live in Southern Cali for 2 to 3 years. Because of that we were looking to renting a home. Everyone talks about how expensive it is to live in California. We use to live in NY and what was expensive was housing and car insu.
Are there good areas to live for a family with young kids

Pasadena is one of the best areas in Los Angeles area, is a city itself, with it own downtown area, spanish style called Old Pasadena, and around many up scale and middle class suburban areas, but close enough to the core of Los Angeles, I think if you can afford it, Pasadena is the best. Close to Pasadena is the pearl of the foothills, the Bel Air of SGV, is called San Marino, many affluent Asian, very upscale, very safe, and very clean, and good weather instead of being far away from the beaches, is in the foothills of San Gabriel Mountains, so good quality of air.

If we're only looking to stay there for now, 2 to 3 years, is renting a house a go way to good if we're looking to getting a house. We have 3 small kids and I don't think an apartment will be big enough.

Thanks, we're going to take at look at that area. If I come out for an interview, I'll only have a day or soo to look around for a place to move my family to. Which I know isn't a lot of time, thats why I'm wanting to get as much information before we get out there. And with all of you all help we have a running start on areas to go to once we get there.

Very good area, 20 miles to Downtown, 9 Old Pasadena where many shops are located....50% Asian, 45% Whites, 5 % latino, no blacks. The problem, theres no hip hop music, loooooooooooooooooooooooooool!!!!, no, the real problem, in my opinion, quite conservative community and very expensive and very far from the westside being as expensive as many areas there, but quiter and maybe safer. It depends on what you are looking for, peace, calm, or shopping, and cool clubs around the corner (westside, even the Hills)....I talk about the Westside in comparison to San Marino, not to Pasadena (except some areas) because this foothill city is one of the most expensive in Los Angeles area.

San Marino is REALLY pricey - look at Monrovia, Arcadia and South Pasaden or Pasadena - all realy nice and safe places, great for kids, lots to do, pretty
