Default Angry Parents strike back at California Teachers Union

Got this interesting e-mail:

CA PARENTS RESPOND WITH SCHOOL SIT-OUT MONDAY, OCTOBER 27, 2008

Parents throughout CA are keeping their kids out of school on 10/27/08 to counter the actions of the CA Teachers Union. CA schools are paid on average $33. per student per day for attendance. The goal of 100,000 kids missing school for one day erases the donation made by the Teachers Union and sends a message that parents will hit them where it hurts to protect our children. We're being asked to call the schools to let them know why our children will be absent on Monday. The "sit-out" will be announced at each of the YES ON 8 tour bus stops through the media. Please pass this along to every parent you know in CA.

I would never organize a sit out. In my area school districts are struggling to find money for buses, construction, maintenance workers, and more.... A sit out hurts the school district who needs to pay the teachers regardless and thus makes the school district have less money for other things that effect the students like books, buses, facilities, etc....

This would only hurt the children.

Stupid, stupid idea. The money doesn't go to the Teacher's Union anyway, you're just taking money from the schools.

Yeah, pretty stupid tactic. It just means your school district will have a lower average daily attendance and get less money from the state. Are they hoping teachers will be laid off?.... so your kids will end up in classrooms that are even more overcrowded. Or textbook purchases are deferred? Or extracurricular activities and field trips cancelled? Stupid. Very stupid.
