Default Help with the Santa Cruz ( Soquel) area!!

We might relocate to the Santa Cruz area ( Soquel, Aptos) and was shocked at what you get for $400,000-500,000~~~Very depressing!!! I was wondering what Soquel is like and what areas (obviously further east away from the ocean) is a good place to check out reasonable rental homes?? Watsonville home prices are better but are there any other little towns that are desirable and affordable without too much of a commute into Soquel?
Thank you!!!!!

Welcome to California . Watsonville, maybe Prunedale or Felton/Boulder Creek north of Santa Cruz would be your best bets. Anything near the ocean will be expensive.
