....why all Gay issues result in Gay education? This is why I voted YES on Prop 8. Gay people simply asked for equality, I would have voted NO, but everytime Gays get a right, we must then be educated about Gay life. When the ban on interracial marriage was reversed, no one taught interracial marriage in schools. Why do we have Gay tolerance classes? There are no tolerance classes for other groups.
I've said before and I'll say it again, if Gay Rights and Equality didn't result in Gays further forcing forcing their lifestyle down the throats of people who don't agree with it, I would be way more supportive.
Can you provide sources about this "gay education" they supposedly want? I work in the educational field (in the San Francisco area, nonetheless), and haven't heard anything about that. Some schools do have tolerance courses, but I doubt they ONLY talk about gay people - they're usually about tolerating differences in general, and I can't see how that's a bad thing to teach children. My parents raised me to be tolerant and loving towards all humans, and I plan to instill the same values in my own children... oh, and learning about gay people early on didn't hurt me either, and actually widened my spectrum to include some wonderful friends.
I'm sorry, it's nothing personal, but I am so grossed out that a gay person actually voted against gay rights. If there was a little vomit icon I could use, I would.
No, I voted against a slimy No-on-8 campaign that was totally the agent of intolerance, hate and bigotry in this election cycle.
A bunch of arrogant, sanctimonious and self agrandizing jerks led by Gavin Newsom.
A group that refused to even consider what their opponents were all about, instead embarked on a slash and burn, scorched earth campaign to destroy people who were simply standing up for what they believed in.
One need only read this thread to discover the sort of ignorance that truly exists among people who claim to be so open-minded.
Open-mindedness and tolerance goes both ways girls.
The No side got exactly what it deserved.
To be slapped down.
God does that sometimes, not because he hates us, but because we need to be humbled.
Gizmo, don't bother. Their argument is that they're fine with homosexuality so long as they never once come into contact with gays or gay culture. I'm sure they worry about catching it or something, because we all know it's so prevalent.

You say you are an atheist conservative and oppose any kind of discrimination, how did you vote on affirmative action 11 years ago and why? If you didn't vote, why not?
That's kind of off-topic don't you think? I didn't vote on that, I wasn't nearly old enough. All of these measures regarding minorities (such as black people and gays) always pass because they use buzz words to drum up support from people who would normally be moderate. Like with affirmative action, white people turned it into "reverse racism," what tripe. But still, I don't think you can really tie these two props together, they're pretty different.

So...you voted against marriage rights for yourself to prove a point?

Exaclty! tell me why I step foot on a school campus and I see a herd of people rallying for "No on Prop.8". Pulling university students out of their way to explain and story tell them about why they should vote no. Then I have to listen to it all the time on the radio, story told by random ppl on the street and watch it on TV. Kind of like all the BS we get on this forum from people who try to convince us that their city is the $hlt.

In reading the booklet that California sends out with the pros and cons for the propostions, it said very clearly that the book King & King were used to teach tolerance for Homosexuals. Why can't I decide what my child learns and doesn't learn? I sending my child to school for an ACADEMIC education, morals are up to me. I don't want a teacher with a political agenda teaching my child their point of view, which is the point of tolerance classes. (That teacher taking first graders to a Gay wedding is a perfect example. btw, I would have sued the school district and gotten that teacher fired if my child was in that class).
Do you know how many languages the Bible has been translated in over the last 3000+ years?
What does the number of translations have to do with the meaning of the original? Thought you said you had read the original Hebrew.

You point out that you can read the OT in Hebrew and that the meaning is unclear and now this is not the place for a religious debate. Like grandpa used to say, don't start what you can't finish.

Please do, that is my point! If you want to take it to PM, e-mail, another forum, whatever. I just want to see you back it up.
