Default 6 cities to choose from HELP ME please.

O.K so I have a choice to live in any of the following cities and I don't know much about many of them. Here is some info that may help.

Most of my family lives in Pasadena so it would help that I am close to them.

School districts are important.

Not so much crime(i'm currently in Chicago so I can hang but ...Ya know)

Affordable home prices...in my ideal situation I would be able to buy a 3/2 for 300k maximum.

Here are the cities...Palm desert,La Quinta,Rancho Mirage,Thousand oaks,Ventura and Vista.

Oh yes..It would help to be near a university because I love taking new classes.

Please give me any recommendations that you may have..Thanks

If it were me, I'd try to find some place along the Foothill Freeway (I-210/SR-210) corridor. But since you have these six, which you did not make clear as to why it is those six, I'd choose Thousand Oaks. Much closer to Pasadena than all those other cities.

Thousand Oaks has decent schools, and like Mikeetc says, it is closer to Pasadena than the other 5. However, your 3/2 for $300k is going to be a condo, I'm afraid.

If you want to be near a university, that crosses off Palm desert,La Quinta,Rancho Mirage. Do you need to work towards a degree? If not, you could still move to one of those cities and take classes through the local parks and recreation departments.

Either Thousand Oaks or Ventura. You are going to have to lower your housing expectations considerably. $300,000 is condo land in California (except for possibly the desert and certain outlying areas. Maybe there too I am just not familiar with the pricing in some of those areas.)
