Had to laugh
at this thread. I moved to the AV in early 1986, I lived there for 8 years. AV used to be a decent place to live, I got out in 94 as it was going downhill then and my sister (west Palmdale) lives for the day she can leave (2 years til retirement). I visited the Av where my aunt and uncle lived since the 1950s and and then it was a nice quiet area. My biggest goal is to own a home again and I would not take a free house in the AV. I am leaving California and all its gangs, overpriced real estate, traffic and taxes. It is true (and I am not saying white nor black as I have known many whites to abuse the system also), the welfare dollar is the same in Pasadena as it is in the AV, guess where the rental dollar goes further. If I am not going to work (and consequently do the long commute), but sit on welfare, I am going for cheap rent!!! That is what the AV is all about now. I used to love the summer mornings and evenings in Lancaster, now I hear that it is disrupted by loud music and gunfire. The drug problem is ridiculous and I got tired of my kids attending schools in trailers. Antonovich is the biggest joke of a politician since George Wallace. Rex Parris will do anything for publicity and even tried a hand at a book that sucked. AV is nothing but LA's ghetto. I used to love it there, and would not go back for anything less than a funeral or a wedding of a close relative. Don't move there!!!

Kimbree, to say AV is LA's ghetto is really a bit of an exaggeration, it has declined like every other area in CA.
But there are still decent areas in the AV just like you can find decent places to live in Los Angeles proper. Actually as far as that is concerned the AV is probably better than mots LA cities.
It is not great, but the West side of Palmdale is not ghetto.
There are some very nice neighborhoods here, we would likely stay if the commute was not so blasted horrendous.
Maybe where you visited was bad, most of the older areas of Lancaster/Plamdale are pretty bad, but that is the East side and most people up here know where to avoid.

Explain to the nice people how reporting increasing crime (and inadequate enforcement) is somehow a "liberal plot." You sheeple would do well to "flush Rush" and get back to reality.

Amen to all the above. The best thing that could happen is to heave Antonovich from office, as well as the entire Lancaster and Palmdale cabal of useless, crooked politicians. Remember "Bucko" McKeon, who rose to political viability through the "mayor's" seat in Lancaster, and tried to ram through Federal bills aimed at having his (and his fellow hucksters') property purchased for the "AV Bypass?" That drama's still unfolding.
By the way, Representative McKeon...care to explain why you took 5 million+ in "campaign funds" from fraudulent "trade schools" which were under investigation while you were Chairman of the House Education Committee? (Source: "60 Minutes", LA Times) Now that the Grand Old Pedophiles are out of power, McKeon's largess to fraud schools may show up on the GOP scandal radar, and soon. He also won't have "Gonzo" Gonzalez to protect him anymore, either! Telling was McKeon's refusal to comment on his shady activities while chair of Education while the story was being broken by "60 Minutes."
As for "R. Rex," any lawyer who has to sink so much money into charitable PR scams tied to local "tilt-up" churches and saturation cable TV advertising can't be too much of a lawyer. A glorified ambulance chaser in an abandoned bank building...sheesh! Successful law practices are built on solid reputation, not TV commercials. Ask anyone who got screwed by the uber alles of rotten legal practices, Jacoby & Myers!

DeserTBob,
I am a he. As I have stated before and continue to do so with a source that you deem acceptable, here is the AV Press Antelope Valley Press Friday, December 7, 2007, home page article that I have been referring to. Luckily I had it saved on my computer. It addresses your "serious crime" increasing 100% fabrication. It has not gone up 100% 05 to 06. Quoted is the article that appeared in the AV Press January 20, 2007 ...

As predicted, you're trying to cover your tracks with the wrong story. Go find the one with the headline, "Serious crime up 100% in Palmdale." I dare ya.
<snipping the rest of the real estate shill article in the "AV Valley Birdcage Liner">

You said it so you find it and post it. I have backed up what I said with my last post. No one is covering tracks and you never predicted anything. Do you make this up as you go along? It is the most current story and not some fantasy, unlike your 100% increase. Why don't you comment on what I posted instead of totally ignoring the facts. Believe it or not, they actually correspond to the crime figures on the LASD website for the city of Palmdale. Facts are facts no matter what "bird cage liner" it got printed in.
I'm done with this. People can read and decide for themselves. DeserTBob, have a nice day in your new slice of paradise that you call home now.
Here are some links to the 2006 Sheriff's annual crime report http://www.lasd.org/sites/yir9600/yir2006/125.pdf and the 2005 Sheriff's annual report http://www.lasd.org/sites/yir9600/yir2005/125.pdf . Considering the population boom (which doesn't get reported by the Sheriff), the numbers are close to 2005. 100% increase, LOL. Stick that in your birdcage.

All these posting are silly. No matter where you live there is always crime. Santa Clarita, Valencia, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, etc. There is crime every where. Is what you make of where you live, not that where you live makes of you. Criminals live all over. Criminals target the nice neighborhoods just as well as the bad areas. I think we like to live with a false sense of security. I live in the westside of Palmdale and I still close my doors and put the alarm on like I would if it where anywhere else. I know people who live in Santa Clarita that have been victims of robberies as well as friends who live in Santa Monica that had their car stolen.
Open your eyes people! Live where you want and make the best of where you are. Not all of us come from money. This is a sad society. The only thing I do agree with, some of these comments, is that if you grew up in a bad neighborhood like I did (South Bronx, NY); don't bring ignorance and the same bad behaviors with you. If you are trying to move up into a new neighborhood to get away from that, leave it right where it is. Just because you grew up ghetto, like I did, it does not mean you have to act or live ghetto. Leave it behind. That is the point of a fresh start.
One day we will all be affected by something greater than ignorance, racism and just plain stupidity. All of this will seem nonsencical and we'll look back and wonder what was the point.
