Palmdale remains a good investment as it represents what Los Angeles was 50 years ago: a bedroom community for middle class budgets, and economies wherein you can still get a job.
The converse mentioned here is also true, a tremendous growth rate in urban style crime as well.

[quote=peskyfish]I hope its not too late for you. Don't do it!!! Palmdale/Lancaster is full crime, gangs and drugs. It has one of the highest crime rates in LA county. Most of the lower class people that can not afford home's in LA move to Palmdale now of day's. Its a boring city. No life what so ever to speak of. Hot summer's-cold winter's. The streets look like a ghost town most of the time, with the only movement is a stray tumbleweed. The only people that you will see walking the street are the meth heads.
...I agree. It's no wonder why they call Palmdale, "Palmton" and Lancaster, "Ku Klux Klancaster..."

I have lived all around LA, but moving to Lancaster/palmdale was a change for me. I bought a house out here, in the ritzy part of town....I thought it would be fine and dandy...but it wasnt...investors were and are putting Section 8 families right next to a house that I work so hard for...and not going by color but these guys come straight out of skid row, some congressman came by and regulated some of the section 8 houses to get out. There is a Section 8 problem in LANCASTER/PALMDALE to those who say no there isnt ......yes there is...
As for gang/crimes/watever....its LA...the home of the bloods/crips, 18 st, temple, and rollin 20s, get over it, from the oc to beverly hills, there still there...your not going to dodge the problem.....theres gangs everywhere,
The pace might be slow here, but jeez the traffic in palmdale is horrible...they need to widen the roads or something...business are still poppin up everywhere,
Im not going to lie to people who want to know how things are down here, so here it is, ok place to live (Ive seen some ghetto people out here, nasty ghetto especially in the walmart areas jeez....but then again ive seen more decent people out here too so it evens out) its not the greatest places to live in but its not boyle heights or watts.....
Its not that bad.....plus you get a nice house for the money.....I would give the lancaster/palmdale a 6 out of 10.

try Tehachapi (sp?)
You might also want to look into Tehachepi...it's a nice mountain city about an hour north of Palmdale in the southern Sierra Nevada range. The political climate is more business-friendly and they don't have the gang/Section-8 problem that Palmdale/Lancaster does.
If you have a family, you'll also find Tehachepi to be much more accomodating.
I won't go into detail, because it's not considered "Politically Correct," but the population/demographics of Tehachepi are much more, shall we say "safer."

My husbands cousin moved to a really nice home in Palmdale quite a few years ago. It's a run down housing track now. Like they said a lot of low income people moving out their and the gang activity is terrible. Sounds like what happened to Marino Valley, started out nice but had friends move because they got tired of hearing gunshots at night. One of our friends rented their home in Marino Valley and it wound up on the news as they were showing the occupants being busted as they had a meth lab going!
Places to snowboard-Mammoth, farther drive but you'll love it!

Just so your warning has more resonance, it's Moreno Valley, once a horse ranch enclave, but pronounced as you wrote it.

Oops, sorry about the mispelling there. I was being lazy and didn't feel like looking up the spelling.

Pearblossom Highway anything on Rancho Vista in palmdale or Lancaster way off on 60th Street...Stay away from DRHORTON houses and KBHOUSES they tend to sell to investors and fill them with section 8.....Beazer, sky ranch (cheapest on the west side of lancaster) are great houses to buy and live...

I have to agree with the posters. I grew up in the AV, graduated from QHHS... Loved it there... 12+ years ago.
The area is now infested with gang members, violence, etc. A family member of mine was murdered by a gang member for asking "too many questions" about their tattoos.
Murders aren't on the front page anymore. When that happens, you know the city has gone downhill. A lot of the teenage kids are into raving, meth, etc. Awful.
I have 2 young ones, and moved away from there. The schools are deplorable.
If you have kids, hopefully they can get into Sundown Elementary or Rancho Vista... the others are so bad, I chose to homeschool mine. High schools are just awful...
It's just a crappy place to live now. I wouldn't live there again if someone gave me a free house.
I agree, if you insist on moving there stick to the west side... There are pockets that you need to watch out for... drive through neighborhoods on Friday/Saturday nights... You'll know which ones to stay away from.
Good Luck.
