Additionally, Anaverde homes are priced higher with higher fees than the rest of AV so the neighborhood attracts those willing to pay a premium whereas the majority of the rest of AV homebuyers are looking for maximum space for the least amount. Plans for the space between Anaverde & rest of Palmdale are a golf course & the existing aqueduct.

True, Anaverde is a little seperated from the rest of the city of Palmdale, but you still need to patronize the stores in the less desirable areas as this community is not yet as sufficient as a master-planned community should be and there is no telling when, or if it ever will be. It also boasts wonderful views of the landfill complete with gulls circling above and the lovely concrete river a.k.a. California Aquaduct that abuts many of the homes there Many of the residents there are transplants or investors from SFV and the L.A. basin as they were able to sell their run down mid-century homes in older, crime-ridden areas and purchase a brand new tract home that is double in size for a lot less. Most of those familiar with Palmdale who were looking to relocate to a safer area with the best schools within the AV, have opted for Rancho Vista (far west Palmdale). Rancho Vista homes are typically more expensive than the Anaverde homes and are generally occupied by more affluent, white-collar families.

If you need financing use Pangea Financial in Irvine Ca. Ask for Brett he is awesome, and they will treat you fair. He gave me 6 loans to choose from, explained all of them and I made the decision on which one worked best for me. I would recomend them to anyone. Brett's number is 949-679-5608..

The crime rate for 2006 was 356.5, lower than the previous year and pretty close to the national average. I have lived in Palmdale since 1990 and most of it was spent on the "east side". Never exerienced any issues there and have yet to on the "west side" where I currently live. I actually believe things are better now than when I first moved here. The crime rate was in the 700 range in 1990.
What is ironic is that last year there was a local family that moved to south Oregon to get away from all the so called crime here and their son was murdered within months of living there. I happen to have land in this area of Oregon and only came upon this story because I was looking at the local Oregon paper online and read the story there.
Yes the AV has problems but show me another area with our population that doesn't have the similar problems. There are better places but there are also worse places. I personally think the future is bright for the AV in the coming years. Maybe I'm an optimist?

Yeah, we chkd out Rancho Vista, good area, if not the best there. What I meant was RV is clumped 2gether w/rest of the area. I actually liked the aqueduct & small hills behind it. Sure beats another house or a street. From Anaverde, the dump isn't visible and its downwind.
Regardless of how good RV & Anaverde is, its surrounded & outnumbered by the rest of AV & numbers don't look good. We stopped looking in that area.

UOTE=T-TIME;58561]Hey anybody out there heard any information on the "3" Low Income Public Housing "PROJECTS" relocating to the Antelope Valley? I've been hearing that Nickerson Gardens, Jordan Downs and Imperial Courts housing projects are being relocated from Watts (L.A) to the A.V. If anyone has any information on this please reply![/quote]
On 9/17/06 in the Antelope Valley press, there was a story or a rumor saying that these three projects were not coming to the Antelope valley the mayor stated that their was enough crime in the Antelpoe Valley, and there will be no "Low Income Public Housing "PROJECTS" relocating here in Antelope Valley.
So don't worry with the crime we already have is enough and it is a good thing that the mayor regonized that. Have a nica day!

I have lived off-grid in a solar powered home 40 mi East of Lancaster for the past 13 years. I commute to Palmdale where I am a schoolteacher with the Palmdale school district. My commute is about 50 minutes each way, with about 12 mi of graded dirt road leading to my house. I have NO NEIGHBORS. At first I had trouble with dirt bikers and shooters on the weekends but through determination and hard work, this element no longer comes to my area. Skies are clear, silence is golden. I am close to Edwards AFB and every now and then hear booming explosions, but I'm used to them now, the dogs don't even react anymore. Great for hiking, working around the house with NO interruptions, some people out here have horses. I like to play music as loud as I want at any time of the day or night...the list goes on.
Still, I am thinking of selling and moving closer to LA as I get older and want to be closer to cultural events.

I lived in Lancaster for 10 years. I moved to Illinois 8 years ago. At that time, the good jobs were aerospace like Lockheed or what so many people did was commute to the valley. I tried that and a 45 mile trip on the freeway took sometimes 3 hours to Canoga Park. We almost bought a house in Quartz Hill, a new housing track, 3 bedroom and a loft for $99,000, 9 years ago. Those houses are well over $300.000 now. QH was considered the upper class area of Antelope Valley and I believe now parts of Palmdale are now. Now I'm talking 8-9 years ago but Lancaster was filling up with gangs from the Valley because my kids went to High school there, it was a disaster. The have 3 hospitals Lancaster community, Antelope valley Hospital and Palmdale hospital. A big retirement community in QH. I loved it there and the weather is hot and dry. I would move there in a minute but reasons keep me here in this horrible weather state of Illinois. Good Luck.

Section 8
GLBrody, It seems like Section 8 is only in Lancaster / Palmdale. If so then, Why is Section 8 only in Lancaster and Palmdale? I think that Section 8 should be spread throughout the entire state of California. If they did that then this town wouldn't seem like a box of raisons.
Section 8 really means "Moving Compton and Watts to Lancaster/Palmdale"
