Rick,
May I ask for your opinion on investing in Antelope Valley/ High Desert? Looks like you have been there, done that.
I am not looking to live there either, just to invest. Any input will be appreciated...

Acton has a nice rural feel while being freeway close to both Palmdale and (slightly farther away) the Santa Clarita/Saugus area. We know some people who work in aerospace in Palmdale who moved to Acton rather than live in Palmdale and they've been happy with their decision.

So with the increased lower income families you see more crime occur. The good news is that the crime rate in Palmdale dropped in 2006.
Nostress, first let me tell you that criminals have cars and they will drive over there to your "Westside", which isn't all it is made out to be. You just pay more for your tract homes which are no better than most in the A.V. We have lived in East Lancaster for the past 11 years and haven't had one single problem in our "Hood". We have lived in the Antelope Valley since 1985 and my wifes parents have been here longer. And let me tell you how sorry I am that you have to shop with the rest of the A.V., that breaks my heart. If your little so called "safe pocket" was so nice maybe they should have built you "Westsiders" you own little shopping mall where all you could sit and drink your starbucks and tell each other how much you spent on your house!!! My point is, you all keep falling for the BS that the mayors, realtors and the developers keep dishing out about how safe the "Westside" is and then they charge you triple for that house. And when your neighbor loses his job and can't make the mortgage payment, he rents out to section 8 right next door to you!! Remember, "Eastsiders" and "Westsiders" put their pants on the same way everyday . I do think the "Eastside" is a little safer than the Westside" , why break into houses over here when they can drive over to the big fancy houses on the "Westside"!! Moving here? I would say hell no!!

When we first moved out here, we did live on the eastside and is precisely why we moved to the westside. Both sides have problems, however if you ever read the paper, watch the news, or conversate with any local law enforcement, you would be foolish to deny the obvious; that the eastside is more crime ridden than the west. I don't buy into anyone's BS, just my own observations and education. Bottom line- I don't feel safe in the eastside, especially East Lancaster. By the way, why do you think the houses cost more in the west? Remember that old adage "you get what you pay for"? Well you my friend, have paid for crime and worse schools.

There is crime on the east side and crime on the west side, but more crime on the eastside?.That is funny!!! Just like i said, they will come to the eastside, steal a car and come rob and burglarize the west side fancy houses!! Sometimes we still go to bed at night with our doors unlocked and windows open on a really nice evening, it can't be all that bad over here. And as far as the schools go, i don't care because we don't have kids and if i did we sure in the hell wouldn't put them in a school in the A.V. And by the way, if you talk to anymore high ranking officials here in the good ol' A.V., ask them if we are going to get another prison built over there on the westside anytime soon!! Or maybe they would consider putting a prison here on the eastside since we have so many criminals here. If anyone is even thinking about moving here to the antelope valley, reconsider!! Doesn't matter where you go, east side, west side ,southside whatever, this place is a disaster!! We will be out of here by the end of summer. Oregon here we come!!

Just so you know, not a resident of Lancaster. Also not saying the AV (west or east) is a great place to live. We too are on the way out of state. That said, this is a forum for people looking for info on the area from those who know first hand. You are doing them a disservice by lying about the statistics. I don't care if you do leave the area unscathed by any crime, the statistics show which area is safer. Also have done a lot of research and the school my kids attend is as good or better than 80% of other California schools. Being you don't have any children and "don't care", you probably shouldn't speak on the subject of raising children out here. I was just trying to give my honest perspective as a resident. Whether you agree or not, it is an opinion that I know is shared by many people I know out here. Like I said, not a great place, but if you have no choice and have to reside out here, opt for the westside (preferably Quartz Hill or Rancho Vista)- it can and does get much worse than these 2 communities. We are leaving for many reasons; Southern Ca, IMO, has pretty much become unlivable as a whole.

Well Nostress, If you think i am misleading people, what are you doing? Okay, let's say that the "Great westside of the A.V." Being palmdale or lancaster, is safer than the eastside. So you live on the westside, and to be safe and happy, you have to stay indoors while you live here. You said it yourself, "Unfortunately, you have to share your shopping experiences with the rest of the AV'' and "If you remain in your safe little "pocket" you tend to forget that there are bad areas nearby". If you feel you have to live in a safe little pocket you do not want to move to the a.v., it it all just one big spot in the desert with no "Berlin" style walls protecting the west side from the eastside. Been here since 1986, i have seen the change and it isn't good. If anyone reading this wants to move here, come and spend a few days and drive with all of these misfits from Los Angeles that moved here to be close to their family members in our wonderful prison over there on the westside. I will sell my house for far less than market price to get the hell out of here sooner. Maybe i will move to the west side of Baghdad, i hear it is safer on that side of town.
