Section 8 is not just in Palmdale and Lancaster. It is a federal program in every state. California has federal HUD housing, Los Angeles County has HACOLA, and Los Angeles has LA City HUD. Section 8 is in every city and town that has landlords willing to accept the program. I have a disabled family member on section 8 in Palm Springs.

Hey, you could offer me a nice home for FREE in Palmdale.. or Lancaster
.. I'm saying 100 percent free and I would not take it if I had to live there.
That should say it all... I lived there 7 long years and you couldn't pay me
to move back.

Fact: Not true.....I would like to speak with your "source". I have been involved in meetings where these rumors have been mentioned, and laughed at. The rumors have floated around for at least 4 years. There is no way I can prove to a believer this is only a rumor. Time will show you I'm right. However, there are already a few HUD apartment projects in the AV. These are run by the federal HUD and I have no juristiction in rules violations.
|
Rebuttal: Wrong. There is "official policy," and then there's the reality of case workers illegally giving "tips" to clients on how to get more benefits from other programs, where the Sec. 8 housing is and so on. And no, I don't divulge my source. If I did that, the slugs that run DPSS would be looking to can someone to eliminate another "leak."

Fact: I have a direct line at my desk for section 8 complaints. I never received that call. Have your informant call me at 661-272-2454. They can also call the fraud hotline at 877-881-7233.
|
Rebuttal: Nice of you to finally get your numbers out there for public use (finally,) but it's a little late for that. Last tour of Lancaster I took showed that East Lancaster is in full "ghettoization" mode. As for the original complaint, this happened in Lake LA some time ago and the call was on a recorded line. Want to press on further?

Fact: Bob, my office is in the Palmdale Sheriff Station. I am in the same office with Partners Against Crime, or PAC, and the detective bureau. I work directly with PAC and have two sergeants, the whole PAC team, probation and parole to work with. PAC team members provide me with information that has led to a large amount of my section 8 termination proceedings. I have access to booking slips, reports, sheriff department calls for service, etc. The PAC deputies have gone through training by my supervisor to be able to identify possble tenant violations. I never go to a section 8 criminal complaint investigation without at least a two man PAC team with me due to safety issues. Please feel free to visit me at my desk in the Sheriff Station whenever you like so you can see I'm not blowing smoke. Lancaster's section 8 investigator works in the Lancaster Sheriff station and works with LAN-CAP.

Rebuttal: After years of not being involved, and after crime stats published by the LA Times revealed that "ghettoization" of Antelope Valley locales was resulting in skyrocketing crime rates while Metro LA's fell 14% overall for serious crime, local politicos like "Lead Head" in Palmdale have been scrambling for cover. The single man, part time details for Sec. 8 enforcement simply aren't enough to begin to attack the problem of out-of-control ghettoids from Jordan Downs. A former neighbor stuck in the Traditions tract tried three times to get ahold of O'Neil in Lancaster, and finally gave up.
Sec. 8 recipients subletting rooms on Sec. 8 houses is now commonplace, and the illegal tenants move in and out at will. There is not enough manpower to begin to sift through all the Sec. 8 fraud in the area, let alone the increasing crime. Patrols are non existant still, as everyone on each shift is too busy running around like headless chickens code 3 answering shooting, DV, GTA and drug calls.
Belatedly, Lancaster now is crowing in the local bird cage liner "Valley Press" about picking up twelve deputies....when they're down forty! Meanwhile, right wing anti-tax whacko councilman Andy Visokey and his pals were instrumental in killing a $25-per-parcel levy that would've immediately put twelve deputies on the street and have been trying hard to kill any additional funding for the current augments to Lancaster Substation staffing, citing their "anti-tax" rhetoric. If the Lancaster electorate (or what's left of them) had any brains, they'd recall Visokey and his pals poste haste.
Maybe we should have some ghettoids move in next door to Visokey...and the Runners and some of those other useless shills acting as "elected officials" down there. Me? I got out, which is proving to be the smart move. Let the ghettoids HAVE Palmdale and Lancaster, while Eli Broad and friends bulldoze the projects and redevelop south central into a residential area for downtown professionals. They'll get around to that after they soak the taxpayers for the Grand Ave. project.

This post is a typical White Racist view and anyone who listens to this Idiot should be shot...I live in the same area of Pearblossom and have not experienced any of that at all...actually it's a pretty nice area and the only problem is the racist, nasty white people who dont like anyone other then themselves....and yes they are all trying to put (for sale) signs in thier lawns and move...but us (Afro Americans) really could care less...(Please Leave). Bottomline is this (You have ya good things and ya bad things) but for a African American Woman who has just bought my own home here...I have not come in contact with any violence or anything crazy....But like i said i have experienced white people who dont want black people here...but **** them ...I'm still living my life and anyone who doesnt like it...can move!!!!!!!!!
racist post below
Agreed with last posts. like I said in my past post, do your homework. There are "bad areas" no matter where you go; the Valley, L.A. Some Ventura Co., Riverslime, I.E. etc. I thought we were in a pretty good neighborhood (Joshua Hills tract) @ Pearblossom/25th east. Anyways, come to find out last week, my Realtor (who is also married to my lender, who sold me my home in '99)-anyway, she lives up the street from me. She was getting her mail, and was confronted by a 'Afro-american' thug POS who stuck a gun to her face, stole her purse, and within 1 hour had charged over 650.00 at the local Walmart (prolly someone w/a 'homie' who works there) as i ALWAYS get my I.D. checked when I use my C/C! @ Walmart (White guy w/his Kids shopping...). Anyways, my Wife and I discussed it. We are getting the F-out of Palmdirt, and Calif altogether, by the time our Daughters are High School age, if not before. I already 'lost' my now 18 Y.O. Son (from my 1st marriage) when I finally got custody @ 16. He came to live w/us in A.V. and soon got into Drugs, got a gang-bang-type disgusting black girlfriend, and immeadiately went down hill fast. His Mom gave up when she couldnt handle hime and sent him to live with us. That turned out to be a mistake. Just do your homework/investigate the pros-cons of WHEREVER you decide to call 'home'.
If anybody wants to buy a house in Palmdale, just lemme know....

I think the person that said Palmdale is horrible and filled with gangs has lost their mind. I've lived there, have family that currently lives there and I don't see it that way. It's a very nice place, don't let that one person change your mind.

If you do not have kids who have to go to school there now...
if you haven't lived there in the last 5 years... then I don't
think you realize how bad it's gotten. 10 years ago it
wasn't so bad. Some bad area's but generally okay. It started getting
ghetto about 5 years ago and since we've been back to visit
in the last couple of years we were shocked at how much worse
it's gotten. If you think you want to move there at least
go visit first!! Make sure you go to the mall. You'll see all
types there and it will give you a good view. Last time we were
driving through near the mall we actually witnessed a carjacking!!
If you have kids... I wouldn't even think of moving there. Actually,
I wouldn't think of moving there now for any reason. There are too
many nicer places to live. I'd rather RENT a condo in Santa Clarita than
OWN a big home in palmdale or lancaster even in the nicest area's.
I actually would like to have back the 7 years I spent there... oh well,
hindsight is 20/20. If people like living there more power to them but
if you read through all the posts... it's almost all negative. That should
tell it all.

Section 8 Section 8 Section 8!!!!!! One of the worst things that ever happened. A section 8 family or 2 move into the neighborhood and thats when it starts going down. They usually don't work (why would you when everything you need is just handed to you) the yard is dead now, all the trash sits next to the house(putting the trash in the can would be considered work, no can do) Seems if your rent, utilities and everthing is mostly paid for you, at least try to be somewhat of a decent member of society. Yes, the A.V. is nothing but a desert ghetto, east side, west side and all sides. Want to move here? Go ahead but you have been warned.
"This post is a typical White Racist view and anyone who listens to this Idiot should be shot" The person that said this is probably the one that robs people at their mailbox and uses your credit card to charge at wal mart!!! Or could even be the person that carjacks people and more than likely a section 8 voucher holder. SECTION 8 Trash PLEASE LEAVE AND TAKE YOUR TRASH WITH YOU!!!!!!!!!!!

My girlfriend lives on R-2 and 11th st East. Nice older neighborhood in EAST PAMLDALE. mature trees. smaller homes, nice backyards. lots of differences between individual homes due to custom fences, patios, etc over time. mainly hispanic nighborhood, some Black families, some working class whites. I enjoy the nighborhood and if we were to stay there (she wants to rent out to section8) I would canvass the neighborhood and start a neighborhood watch--everyone's home values and quality of life would increase.
As it is, it's very quiet and peaceful--EXCEPT--last Sat night the cops surrounded a house on a nearby block and kept playing a tape telling the people to come out with their hands up and watch out for the police dog it will bite you--then in Spanish, then back to English over and over for an hour or so--kind of spooky!??%%@! I don't know what the outcome was.
I walk to the market in the mornings and see friendly people walking or waiting on corners to be picked up.
The schools are pretty bad as someone else pointed out. I substitute teach now in Palmdale and the kids are horribly rude and yes there is a racial thing going on among young people with a lot of Blacks resenting their perceived lack of respect from other ethnicities. Hardly any white kids in public school.
Yet I like it here. I enjoy cultural diversity and the challenges of living in a multi-cultural, working class neighborhood. Littlerock (nearby) has a great swap meet. The Vallarta markets really save you money.
Not a lot to do in the evenings, but there are some good cultural opportunities at AV college--music, dance classes. Sports is big here especially soccer.
Just don't get me started on the dirt bike thing--these people will ruin the desert with their toys!

Living in Palmdale
I've lived in Palmdale over 20 years and have seen positive and negative. The west side of Palmdale has everything from shopping malls to golf courses. It's a very new feeling city. I remember the days when we had no malls or entertainment available. There are ghetto areas, just like every other city in Calif. but it's not as bad as peskyfish makes out it to be...
We're 45 minutes from Wrightwood for skiing, 45 minutes from Red Rock for dirt bike riding and camping. Lots of summer entertainment in the parks from free concerts to movies....it's a very small town feeling. When going to the stores, people call you by your first name.
We're currently in the process of building a new hospital, which should open late 2008. The city has done a fabulous job trying to bring new business to Antelope Valley and upgrading parks etc.
Let me know if you have any other questions, I'll be glad to help you in any way possible.

What you have here is a lot of racist white people calling any african american they see a gang banger and trying to move away from a perfectly fine city because of thier fear and disgust for african americans...listen to them only if you are as equally racist and afraid of black people...Just disgusting (I actually want the whites to move if they are all like Deset Bob)who wants to be around them ...so what you have to understand is this (Blacks could really care less where you guy's move to) so by all means keep putting them for sale signs in your yard...(You guy's are fun to watch move away)!!!!!!
actually since i've been in Palmdale i've seen a lot of white trash and white meth heads walking around...hmmmmm go figure
