Default SF Bay Area to SoCal

Hello. Due to job relocation to the 90015 zip code, we (family of 4) are considering moving to Los Angeles or surrounding area. We currently live in the beautiful SF East Bay, Berkeley Hills/Kensington area, and are looking for a similar safe, diverse, family-oriented neighborhood/community with top public schools, perhaps in Burbank, Glendale, Irvine, Valencia? Any suggestions? (PS-I would appreciate if you could look beyond the paragraph/sentence structure as I am typing on a PDA, and have no control of the mobile format or layout).

Somehow, if you LOVE the Bay Area and think it's the greatest thing since sliced bread, you may not like So Cal as much. Sorry.

Valencia = Pleasanton
Irvine = Walnut Creek
Burbank = fairly diverse, but not that scenic...and hot in the summer
Glendale = "the United States of Armenia," as it's locally called

I'd keep on adding to that list. Maybe South Pasadena? Also, the West Side fits your criteria, but it's expensive...and the weather is better.

Are you going to rent or purchase a home? Budget or price range?

How old are the kids?

There is a metrolink train which goes to downtown from several directions. Probably should get familiar with it and consider some of the outlying areas from which you can commute in.

valencia and irvine are very far away from downtown LA. they do both offer metrolink commuter trains though. depending on your financial situation, you may consider south pasadena or san marino if you are wealthy and want to be close to work. if you would like to be further from the city, the foothill communities of la canada and la crescenta, or even arcadia and monrovia would probably be good options.
