I don't see how Prop 4 fixes this? If your child wouldn't come to you to begin with, a state-mandated letter isn't going to fix the fundamental problem.

I wouldn't trust most people to summarize anyone's medical history, their own, their children, or their loved ones. So if the medical issues are the concern, then it sounds like the doctor performing the operation needs to be given access to the appropriate medical records. Notifying bad parents doesn't necessarily mean the child gets better medical care.

I would question the competence of any parent whose 12 year old daughter seeks an abortion without guidance and advice from a trusted adult (parent, guardian, family member, etc). It doesn't necessarily mean the parents did something wrong, but it certainly raises a big red flag.

A pregnant 12 year old is going to be scared. She is not emotionally mature and cannot make rational decisions, least of all finding a competent doctor.
Maybe she was molested by a teacher at school and got pregnant. That is not a result of bad parenting. Kids with good parents can get pregnant, if you doubt that then think about your own upbringing(if you had good parents).

It also makes it easier for predators to cover up evidence of sex with a minor. I wonder if the people who voted against parents thought about these things or if they simply decided that the child and the impact this will have on her isn't as important as protecting abortion rights.

I'll be moving to a State that will support ME being a parent to my child as opposed to an organization that considers her as little more than a file.
Okay, good luck out there in Hicksville, North Dakota. Don't forget to write!

if a parent doesn't have the right to be notified then how will the parents know what could have happened, what if the child was raped, drugged or if an adult was the father? anyone who voted agians't parents being notified has to be an idiot.

maybe they should actually PARENT and know what's going on in their kids lives and not depend on the govt to assist them with their parenting duties.

What I don't get is all the Yes on 4 people arguing about govt interference and govt preventing them from doing their parental duties when that is total BS. Govt isn't preventing any parent from parenting the way they want right now.

I personally voted for prop. 4 for my own selfish reasons. As a mother of two daughters I would really want to be aware if either one was making such a decision. I can see how some parents might be abusive if they found out their daughter was prego though and that might be a quasi-good reason to be against it. But I would want some adult to help a minor through the situation. It just seems irresponsible to NOT have someone be notified that a 14 year old is pregnant and having an abortion.

The liberals that want a nanny state want to take you out of the picture. You just have kids and the machine will raise them to be good little leftist robots.

Nanny state? Are you joking? You Republicans just voted for the ultimate nanny state by dictating who can and can't get married.
