Add to the above....
A 15 year old girl was shot in the back last night....in Alameda...
Some "kids" came over from Oakland....and shot this beautiful smart young girl in the back.....In the park by Webster and Central....Apparently she was in the 'defensive' position or posture...so I read that as...on the ground...crouching in the fetal position...and these horrid mutant scumbag animals shot her in the back....
Too bad....Alameda almost made it through the year with out a single murder....

Do you think violence and murder is exclusive to the Bay Area? Not to diminish the awfulness of these incidents, but I'm sure you could find just as many stories from any other metro area... have you checked Detroit & D.C.'s crime reports lately?? Somehow I've managed to live in Bayview for the last 7 months & EPA for 2 years before that, and I'm still alive and well. I wouldn't call these neighborhoods safe, but it's not like every resident gets shot regularly.

As a point of reference, check out Detroit's crime report:
Detroit, Michigan (MI) Detailed Profile - relocation, real estate, travel, jobs, hospitals, schools, crime, news, sex offenders
Averages well over 1000 (versus San Francisco's average in the 400's), and their LOWEST number of yearly murders since 1999 was 354 per 100,000. Sorry, but I'll stick with the relatively safe Bay Area... even EPA is safe in comparison to many other cities around the US.

Horrible thing that happened, but I sincerely hope you're not saying Palo Alto is dangerous - considering it's one of the safer neighborhoods on the Peninsula:
Palo Alto, California (CA) Detailed Profile - relocation, real estate, travel, jobs, hospitals, schools, crime, news, sex offenders
Their crime index averages between 185-210, which is well below the national average, and they've had 0-2 murders a year since 1999. My sister works for a nearby police department, and says the cops are bored on a daily basis, LOL... she's been with them for about 5 years now, and has only covered maybe 3 murders in that time (at least one of which was a domestic dispute).

Hi.
Sadly I'm intimately familiar with the crime in Detroit...South Chicago....New Orleans...Gary Indiana....
East Saint Louis.....Richmond...Oakland....Vallejo....Sacrame nto....East Palo Alto....Hunters Point.....and a long long list of other places.....
Those crimes I noted in this post and a bunch of others…......are not some wild-eyed made up fiction....they actually happened...[unfortunately]....
Is Palo Alto dangerous? Well.....read the papers........does the violent brutal rape of a 17 year old girl sound "KEWL".......Nope...didn't think so....There are plenty of towns in the U.S. where there are NO murders…and NO rapes for years and years….IMAGINE THAT….
Ahhh…..but alas….these towns are not “hip” or “trendy”…They have no “KEWL” clubs in dangerous parts of town to hang out at……well…..you get what you look for…..

Then....there's OAKLAND.....Avoid West Oakland...and avoid East Oakland....which does not leave much Oakland left to see
Avoid East and West Oakland if your a Racist WASP maybe-heck, even they are more scared off by their own fears as opposed to anything bad actually happening to them. Anyway, everyone else feels welcome for the most part.

How about the 100,000 rich people who live in the Oakland hills-the same hills on which 7,000 million-dollar homes are built-do you think that area might be somewhere worth seeing?

No its not. What a horribly stereotypical and factually untrue thing to say.

Oh dear....how funny....racist WASP?...Racist WOP?.....
What a fascinatingly typical way to attempt to silence a critic....but a wholly unsuccessful one....
Get a hold of yourself there.....
Not dangerous in Oakland?.....No murders?....Neat.....in dream land perhaps....The facts speak for themselves....
The only ONLY way Oakland will be "saved" is through some SERIOUS gentrification....[so if you don't live there already....be FIRST in line].......but of course.....even this is being attacked as.....yup...you guessed it...RACIST....Ha....what a crock....
You like Oakland?.....And Richmond and Detroit too perhaps?....Go for it!....Live there.....not in Rockridge....but say on International and 14th...or on Fruitvale.....
Home is where you DIG it......

Guess what? Those two stories you mentioned made HEADLINE news, because they aren't things that normally happen in those towns... so I know they weren't "fiction," since the news reporters talked about them for like a week. Now if those same incidents had happened in Detroit, I highly doubt they'd be such big news. I lived on the Peninsula for most of my life, and have lived in East Palo Alto & now Bayview - so don't try telling me what things are really like, since I experience it EVERY single day.
