For LA I can't imagine why, there's very few jobs here and they pay crap compared to rental costs.

Not everyone is finding that to be true, obviously.

Mayorhaggar, SD's job market is worse I believe. Either way, it shows that people want more out of their lives than what so many on C-D often say they do.

Wait wait wait ... weren't we just wallowing in a thread titled: the Great California Exodus? Now this?
Oh my aching head. Pack the U-Haul -- now unpack the U-Haul.
All those dishes ... each wrapped in newspaper

Will U-Haul gimme a refund if I didn't get to use their truck?

Oh, you want UHaul “The 2011 Top 50 U.S. Destination Cities.”

8. SACRAMENTO, Calif.
12. SAN DIEGO
18. LOS ANGELES
19. VAN NUYS, Calif.
20. COSTA MESA, Calif.
34. LONG BEACH, Calif.
43. SAN JOSE, Calif.
50. VICTORVILLE, Calif.

There is an obvious flaw in this as Van Nuys is part of Los Angeles

The OP's post is based on inbound shipments by movers. And the post above is based on Uhauls. Neither presents a complete picture of people moving into or out of an area.

For the first survey it would be interesting to show a ranking of outbound shipments.

Aha! Good post, jw ...
I'm seeing possible grounds for a lawsuit here against U-Haul ...
when I went to rent the truck I had to tell them where I was going to from California ... I told them Deeeetroit, on account of how as recent scuttlebutt has it that things are improving faster in Deeeetroit than Cali-forn-i-a.

So? So they KNEW -- and they didn't divulge to me that peoples are still preferring Cali-forn-i-a ... and they rented me that truck ... to takes my moneys ... and I went through all that backbreaking work of wrapping all them dishes and packing that damn truck.

And now I gotta unpack because it's stoopid to leave.

That's a lawsuit, ain't it? They had that report. They knew ...
Probably a bunch of Canadians own U-Haul ... I'm just sayin' ...
