The point is obvious. You stated that Texas is the most conservative state, yet this is absurdly false. The fact that most of their governors have been Democratic demonstrates this.

Its a state that has been taking over by liberal interest groups and unions. With the exception of the bay area the population isn't that liberal. Southern California really isn't much more liberal that similarly populated areas of Texas.

Sometimes I think you're arguing just for the sake of arguing ... even if it doesn't make any sense.

Now you're saying that California is essentially a conservative state and Texas is a democratic state?

Ok ... whatever.

Yes, because I don't tolerant falsehood. Texas is not the most conservative state in the union, this is fact.

I'm sorry but can you point out where I suggested this? Firstly I don't care about democrat vs Republican I dislike both parties. I mentioned the democratic Governors only to point out that the state isn't even close to being the "most conservative state in the union". Secondly, I never suggested California was particularly conservative. Rather pointed out that Southern California is not nearly as liberal as the north. Texas really isn't that much different than Southern California.

I am escaping SoCal for the beautiful Oregon Coast. Love the rain, the forests, the people...
I don't know about the job market, nor does it matter to me, as I am self-employed and can and will find work in any market.
My youngest is graduating next year, the product of an extremely poor California public education (no offense intended, this school district in particular is horrid..I'm sure your's is 100% better!).
Our plan is to sell one ranch, downsize, and get the heck outa SoCal...arriving in Oregon to pay cash to build (yep, we can and will do it), with paid-off vehicles and endless employability.
Escape while you can...this great state is about to crumble and you are better off finding a new place.

I've been thinking about Oregon. Portland seems a bit over priced. What cities are you looking at?

This sounds like you have few coins in your pocket. Why would you send your kid to a terrible school. Looks like you had the money to go private.

How would you ever know which state is the most conservative. You'd have to take a poll of everyone, right? Overall population vs. per capita? What are we talking here?

Oregon is beautiful! We are buying a 2 acre lot just outside Coos Bay, on the coast. Believe it or not...sight unseen (it's a family deal). The price is irrisistable LOL! Housing in very affordable there...my research continues on other aspects of that area. My other half is a from Yamhill...absolutely a wonderful place...one of the truly quaint towns and the region there is a blooming wine country, so reasonable housing prices won't be there for long. Lot's of agriculture...just my style, and it reminds me a lot of upstate NY where I grew up. I noticed on a mid-November trip, that I saw commercial and residential construction, no commercial "For Rent" signs and a lot of healthy economic activity.

Just a few coins, yes, but dwindling everyday while in California!
The public schools in Temecula are very good, considering what they are. When we first came to SoCal, I entered three kids into those schools. We then moved out of the Temecula Valley Unified School District and I obtained an "Interdistrict Transfer" to keep them there (stability for teenage boys is good ). One of the stipulations is that the boys' grades maintain at least an average level. Two kids graduated...one screwed up. He has to attend school in the horrible district...rural, no money, care less teachers, spent 6 million to put astroturf on the football field and can't afford to pay an intern 8 bucks an hour to supervise an in-school suspension group. My child's grades are not up to par with a private school...
