Conservative the safest? Looks like it to me too. Not sure about Glendale, but the rest of the safest list are all conservative areas.

But this whole list is kind of bogus. Most of the "cities" mentioned on the safe list are not truly cities. They're just mega suburbs that are so big thier populations are large enough to make some arbitrary cut off number as being a "city"

The thing is, the "safest places" just happen to have more money and higher housing prices (in general, there are some exceptions). And, generally, that's where conservative people live. I don't think those places are safe because they're conservative and there are plenty of conservative places I can think of that are unsafe and plenty of liberal places I can think of that are very safe. Plus, like you said, these lists are bogus not only for the reason you mentioned but because of how to determine "conservative" vs. "liberal." Detroit could probably be considered "liberal" because the residents vote Democrat in Presidential races but it's not necessarily socially liberal. Anyway, I was less annoyed with the report than I was with someone making a pointless, trollish statement.

Second this. The rate of crime has to do with economics, not political bends.
And me too, annoyed with the "trollish" statement.

I think money has more to do with race.
Cause Sunnyvale is certainly not homogenized-sorta.

They used 75,000 people as the cutoff for cities to rank.
But cqpress also looks at it from the standpoint of metro areas (MSAs).
The problem with using MSAs is it doesn't create a geographically small enough area to help someone chose an area to live.
Every city or metro area has good and bad areas, and the larger the geographic area the harder it is to identify which parts are dangerous areas.
But just as an FYI, here are the rankings of the most dangerous metro areas in California. The number is the ranking against all US metro areas.
Ranked most dangerous to least dangerous
13. Oakland-Fremont MSA
17. Stockton MSA
39. Modesto MSA
64. Vallejo-Fairfield MSA
65. Salinas-Monterey MSA
66. Los Angeles County MSA
71. Visalia-Porterville MSA
73. Bakersfield MSA
82. Fresno MSA
85. Merced MSA
89. Sacramento MSA
98. Riverside-San Bernardino MSA
101. San Francisco-San Mateo MSA
114. San Diego MSA
The rest of the state metro areas and US can be seen at:
http://os.cqpress.com/citycrime/Metr...8_Rank_Rev.pdf
And the geographic areas covered by the MSAs is here

Once again, huge contrast and this is even more misleading than the city rankings.
Most of the crime in the East Bay is concentrated in Oakland, Richmond and the flatlands of Berkeley. There is some in Pittsburg too I suppose but other than that, the East Bay is safe. And 3rd behind only SF and SJ in average wealth and educational attainment. I guess my point is crime stats only tell one side how a place is.

The word I used has no specific racial connotations.
