Sequoyah Hills is considered a wealthy predominantly African American neighborhood in the East Oakland Hills.
The Country Club there is a place where many of Oakland's 'Black Power Brokers' frequent.

I've heard that Baldwin Hills in L.A. is an affluent, predominantly (approximately 80%) African American neighborhood. According to wikipedia it is one of the wealthiest majority-black areas in the U.S. It also has the nickname "Black Beverly Hills" and it was the location of a "Laguna Beach" style show for BET called "Baldwin Hills" which followed some affluent black high school and college students who live there.

Although many areas have sections of the city that are predominently one race or another, that isn't the case everywhere. I always think that it is funny when a question is asked about where someone should live or where a culture is proliferating. I grew up in the Oxnard/ Port Hueneme/ Ventura area and never understood that someone would be more comfortable in one are than in another. Does color keep someone from living in a home? If you want to live in an area, go for it. I remember my uncles visisting from Chicago where my mom grew up. Seems that out there you live in a neighborhood because of the color of your skin. I just don't think that is the case out here in California. Maybe in the big city. What does everyone else think?

Here is a map of the Oakland. The orange areas are synonymous for wealth and is home to around 120,000 people.
Here is a map of Oakland's black population..darker shades of red indicate a higher percentage of african americans.
The Southeastern Hills have a huge concentration of wealthy african americans.
