Does a "Day without (insert group here)" work? I noticed nothing...

Why should Soon be ashamed? I don't get it.

My guess it's an attack based on Soon's support of prop 8.

Soon should not be ashamed of his/her beliefs and should also not be attacked for them. That's just wrong.

Sorry, didn't notice. I heard that someone was planning something, but not when. Traffic was the normal snarl, so I don't think many people stayed home...
The guy who proposed this protest was trying to do something a little different than the standard "get commuters p*ssed by blocking the streets in front of Mormon Temples" thing to ge the public's attention regarding the Prop. 8 controversy.

I agree. I think it is a good idea. I really admire this sort of political movement - reminds me of the things Gandhi did in India in the 1940s.

I don't think it worked because it came at such a bad time for the economy. They even did some interviews for the news in San Francisco with people down in the Castro. They interviewed two store owners who said that they'd never be able to just close for a day this close to Christmas as much as they support the cause. And several people on the street basically said that they would risk losing their jobs for taking off work. It was a good idea but it needs to be implemented at a better time for the economy so people actually see the impact of a "day without a gay" without the risks involved for the people who take the day off.

I think the idea was actually really bad. There aren't that many homosexuals to begin with and so few homosexuals participated that it made it seem like homosexual were even less common in the community than there really are.
It was a protest that just made homosexuals and homosexuality seem even more invisible. In the future, I think the homosexuals should stick to protests where lots of them get together in mass rallies. Then homosexuals seem more visible.
