I think your 4 perceptions are pretty dead on accurate. Out of all the places you listed as previous homes, I think living in Santa Barbara would be the closest to Santa Cruz with a few less hippies and better weather. If you were happy in Santa Cruz, I don't see why you wouldn't be in SB. But, if you were missing living in a larger city when you were in Santa Cruz, you will probably be feeling the same thoughts.
