Default truckee---relocation from Ga

this would be completely and emotional move, just due to the fact that i'm doing ok here in Ga nothing worth staying for though, just family!! it would prob. be just my 5 yr old son and i we love to ski and the mountain living, and would love not to raise him in this southern racest and violance riddin region.

i dont have any education, just a bunch of skills of different trades, and can do pretty much anything and usually end up being really good at it. i pick this area to DREAM about just cause i like it, not really fixated on truckee and am not really thrilled with the fact that the only house i can afford out there is remanufactured house in a park, and i know that there park living isn't looked at as it is out here, but still..... this move wouldnt take place for about a yr if it does go down. i would like to get some insite from people who know about this type of stuff. so please any input helps dont hold back

thanks paul

Truckee is around 6000' elevation & right in great ski country. It is mighty cold in winter & even chilly on summer nights but the scenery is fantastic. A great area to raise a kid. Good luck.

It's nice up there, but it gets cold in the winter, really cold.

Default Truckee - Consider Quincy, CA, too

If you're considering Truckee, you might want to also look in the Quincy area, about 30-60 minutes north of Truckee. Some of my family have lived in Quincy area for 10+ years. My grandpa was in hospital in Truckee (excellent orthopaedic surgeons - get to practice lots on the winter skiers!) So, I'm famililiar with both areas.

I think Truckee is more "resort" oriented, gets more "tourists." Quincy and area is more "mountain" people, year-rounders, more of a "small town" feel. (Less feeling of difference between "haves" and "have nots" it seems). Both are nice, but you might find better job prospects in Quincy area. (There's more industry there, I think - though they've lost a LOT of housing and construction related jobs with the housing market crash, as with most of California.) BTW, I've posted some pix of Quincy, CA, in the winter on the webshots[dot]com website, if you want to see some. Anyhow, all of the eastern Sierra Nevadas are gorgeous country - wishing you luck! - cyn.

I was born and raised in Truckee, and id have to say there is no where else I would ever want to be raised. In Truckee you dont have stuck up city people to deal with unless there is tourists up from the bay area, but more in the schools are the kids are pretty down to earth, everybody is friends with everybody. My graduating class was about 300 and I knew every single one of them. Its a good place to raise a kid, he'll definatly fit in.
