Default Racial discrimination in Windsor/Santa Rosa Calif

Hi All:

I have a question that hopefully one of you can answer. I am a black woman who is considering purchasing a home in Windsor or Santa Rosa, and I would like to know if you could offer any advice regarding race relations in Sonoma County. I have looked on the internet but really haven't come up with anyting concrete or recent regarding same; however some people I have talked to have said that I would be 'be more comfortable' in the Bay Area and by all means should NOT EVEN CONSIDER moving to Windsor/SR..please advise. Happy Holidays!!

hi Oakgrl2001, I grew up in sonoma county, and will say the area isn't exactly diverse. I did have multiple neighbors that would fly confederate flags, or go into drunken rants about how minorities are ruining the country, but there was also a bi-racial family(black husband/white wife) and a korean family directly abutting these people and no situations or altercations ever occurred. Theres always bound to be some people with embedded prejudices, but for the most part people will be friendly or just standoffish. The most visible minority are Latinos, and there have been gang problems in the rundown parts of Santa Rosa and some altercations with the police in Rohnert Park, but for the most part these areas are safe, whitewashed suburbia. I prefer the vibrancy and diversity in the inner bay, but if you're looking for a quieter lifestyle, nicer weather(imo), and access to nature, Sonoma County will be nice. Good luck and hope your enjoying your holidays.

If you're concerned why are you even considering a more remote location like that? Just move close to a major city and you'll feel better.
