Does that come with or without Kevlar vests?

Summertime, I do not remember going down stairs for snacks. Must have turned it into something else. I do remember getting yelled at for buying Twinkies, LOL.
California is still special, especially the Napa area. I hope it stays the same for a long, long time.

One of N. Californias best kept secrets is Paradise/ Chico. It is within reach of Sacramento (1.20min + -) Housing is still affordable with $275,000 buying a decent little place in Paradise and an even more decent spot in Magalia, right above Paradise. Gets a little snow in Magalia and even less in Paradise. Down the canyon (beautiful drive) to Chico where you have all the big box shopping or small downtown shopping you could want. Chico State is there. If we come back to CA we will go back there. We enjoyed working there, be nice to retire there. I think the only thing that would hold us back would be the bond issues and property taxes.

Jill, it was like a basement, near
the center of the campus, and
you would go down some cement
stairs to go into this snack bar,
like a small cafeteria style line.
There were just a few tables.
Napa ... i.e. Calistoga .. still lovely
area due to grape vines/orchards/
wineries, and expensive for
land/homes.
I agree with those who say Northern CA
is less expensive than Southern CA..
Lots of towns, but some are fairly desolate
in appearance and very HOT.. i.e. Willows.
Winters was kind of charming, but, it, too,
can be very hot in the summers.
If one keeps searching, though, there is sure
to be some place in the Northern CA that
is agreeable in appearance and price range.

Yes, I've actually considered that... also would love to retire in Oregon, either at the McKenzie River (Leaburg/Blue River), or up near the Columbia Gorge. There's some absolutely amazing scenery in those places!!!

I wish I made enough money to enjoy the rich lifestyle your sister does! Maybe itll be a reality, I am doing the same type of business my friend who makes $10k a month is doing. If I can make at least $2k a month thats enough to get a nice big house in Oil city($50k houses). $5k a month will afford me an upper middle class huge luxury house with guesthouse($125k to $150k houses) and if I get really lucky and make $10k a month, might find myself living in a mansion It wont be anywhere in CA, cant get much even on $10k a month(thats $120k a year) without creative financing-no thanks. and I hate south Florida plus house prices are going down, I would lose equity if I stayed here!

Well, I wouldn't say they're rolling in dough, but they do live comfortably... she's an attorney & he's in sales, so they both worked hard for it! They are also really smart about money, and have saved where/when it's important. I also guess they'll make a healthy profit on their townhouse, and will spend wisely on the next home. She used to do real-estate law, so I trust her judgement!

Most people buying in CA are selling off their retirements to live there.

If they can at least break even when they sell their house, they get their money back and can buy a house elsewhere at a fraction of the cost and use the rest of the money to support their retirement.
