HGTV Dream Home in Sonoma
Hello, I noticed where the HGTV dream home this year is in the city of Sonoma. The area looks really nice. Has anyone taken a tour of the house ?

I entered to win this house. For whoever wins it, they will have to pay the taxes on it. What would the estimated cost for the taxes be on $1,800,000 (the estimated value on the house, property and landscape)? If by some chance that I might actually win it I would like to know so I am not forced to sell just to pay the taxes. I liked to be prepared.

I don't think that ANY of the winners in the past dozen years have actually been able to afford the house that they won and all had to sell within a couple of years.
Be careful for what you wish for...

I didn't get a tour of the house but I was passed up when I auditioned for a hosting job with HGTV on that dream house....b*ggers.
The house is in a development owned and built by Steve Ledson....a bit of a controversial figure locally.
It's HGTV's first 'infill' development, not a sprawling home on multiple acres. It's in a walkable neighborhood type setting close to Sonoma Square.
I've been around the area but have not seen the inside.

Total ARV of Grand Prize is $2,052,450. Feds will want $750K or so. Kalifornia will want $180K or so.

I looked at the site. Besides being liable for all the property taxes, they will issue you a 1099 on the value of total prize. So unless you are rich, it would be a burden to win this it seems

I think I read once that HGTV pays the first years taxes.
I wouldn't be able to afford it although I did enter, but after selling it, I could still get a pretty nice affordable place in beautiful Sonoma.

Does anyone know how much the local property tazes would be? after paying the IRS & State-
who could afford to live in this house???? I entered the contest, and now I hope that I do NOT win!!
Is the house on an acre of land? Is Sonoma a nice place to live?
I live in New England, so I do not know what it is like out there!

Sonoma's beautiful and safe, and this house appears to be located near the town square; an enviable place to live.
