Actually, the little bungalow houses in the downtown area are quite cute. I've always loved neighborhoods like that. I think this would be a great place to raise a family. Maybe not so much a city for a young single person like myself. But, I do see some of the appeal. I just thought it was overrated. But, it's definitely not as bad as I made it out to be. Hope I didn't offend too many people. When comparing this to another small city it is probably much better. You do have the ocean right there and I do love California in general, it's a wonderful state.
Also, the hospital I'm working at is pretty horrible & backwards so that has a lot to do with my bad attitude.

Glad to see that you've calmed down. And I did get offended so thank you for making note of that. Hope I didn't sound too rough. I just dont like people bashing great cities just because they aren't their cup of tea.

Well what are people supposed to do then? Pretend everything is great? Keep their mouths shut? It's attitudes like this that keep Santa Barbara from improving, especially in regards to the working class population.

Santa Barbara. Many different view points
Dear Ms. Rachel, I understand your frustration. It is tough to overcome an image, or an anticipation that you have had in your mind for such a long time about a specific city. On the surface, I agree, Santa Barbara may, at times seem less than perfect. I would like you to contact me, I am a professional Concierge, I specialize in Santa Barbara! My Grandmother grew up here, she passed away a few years ago at the age of 101. I spent every summer of my youth here in S.B. since 1970. I would like very much to offer you and a guest a new prospective. The first time I visited "The City", your city, BEAUTIFUL San Francisco, I was 21, visiting friends from school who lived on Haight St.! I loved it, the people, the food, the "vibe", I was open to the "mindset" of the location, which is quite different than Santa Barbara. I was so irritated when we drove up to Stinson Beach, It was so laid back, so boaring, so cozy! Well, that is what people were looking for there, I was looking for something else, and in return, I was dissapointed. I promise you that Santa Barbara is a Jewel, it depends on how your "light" hits it.
Be well, I look forward to hearing from you.

I just read an agenda from SBMTD from April 7th that they had submitted MTD data to Google Transit and were awaiting Google to respond with a beta test for their system. Congrats on SB MTD for finally joining us in the 21st century!
EDIT: I just saw a list of proposed changes on the SBMTD website:
http://sbmtd.gov/Flyers/Service_Change_Info.pdf
Still no planned service to Goleta Amtrak for students. Ugh. Maybe in 10 years or so we'll finally get that service.

To the travel nurse
I was offered an assignment at Cottage Hospital and am assuming that is the place where you worked. If you don't mind, what floor did you work on and how was it? If you don't mind telling me, I would appreciate it. You can send it privately also. Thanks.

That's easy for you to say, you don't live there.
I am from Santa Barbara and I left because it was cliquish; Even the poor people are snobs, and it's too small so there's nothing going on, except the summer solstice parade http://www.solsticeparade.com. In fact one of my peteeves is people who never lived in Santa Barbara and criticize me for leaving when I'm the one who knows what it's really like.
Now I do agree that the rest of rachelinala's claims are somewhat petty. Yes the beaches are filthy and Santa Barbara does in fact have the highest per capita of homeless in the nation, or at least it did in the 80's when I lived there but that's not really sufficient cause to hate a place. Dislike, maybe, but not hate. And lack of shopping, well that's understandable for a community so small.

Are the beaches really nasty in Santa Barbara? The whole thing about the tar and all?
