I used to live in CA and going to Santa Barbara was always a treat. I have always thought it to be beautiful, and we thought of moving there but it is land locked. No where to go but south or north, and I didn't care for those areas. Still, what a beautiful city. How is this for keeping the thread going? Am I doing okay?

Landlocked? Santa Barbara? When did that happen?

I think (s)he means there is nothing east of SB (thanks to the LP Forrest). Which I guess is somewhat true, but thats also a huge appeal. Where do you need to go? Bakersfield? Lancaster?

The Los Padres National Forrest kept development close to the cost, and kept SB a smaller city. Can you imagine if there was an LA like spread from SB to Bakersfield?

Had to check this thread too (used to post under my previous screen name). Looks like SBMTD still hasn't implemented Google Transit for their service. Probably the last major transit agency in California that hasn't. Not surprising at all. I'm shocked that Measure B passed though, maybe there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

uhhh, no. Which is why I LOVE it here.

I don't get the original thread. SB is beautiful. We have culture, breathtaking scenery and beaches, charm and the best weather in the nation. I feel very fortunate to wake up here everyday. I love this place!

Not surprising to me either. In my experience, SBMTD lives in its own bubble world. Slow to respond to needs and move ahead with a lot of things. They're also stubborn about cooperating with partner services or getting on board with new ideas, i.e. interfacing with other agencies, agreeing to a regional "smart card", NextBus.com, etc.

In SBMTD's defense, the big improvements I've seen are the Carp express lines and service to north County.

Yep. Me too. Thought I'd give the ole' dog a visit. This damn thread will never die a needed death. lol. I think ole' Rachel has long gone moved on.

Santa Barbara is a special place indeed. Ever since moving here my life has become so rich, I rarely ever post on this website. I am so busy with a full life. Whereas in Los Angeles I posted all the time. Even though there was so much to do in LA and much I was involved in, I was lonely as hell.

Santa Barbara has a lot of foundational life enhancing activities and friendships to offer and they are all easy and quick to get to.
