But that is just for one heathcare system with a couple hospitals, 9 unit clinic system, and ownership in several health care business operations. I also know that the nurses that we have on staff have some cute looking little cars made by BMW, Mercedes, Lexus, Inffinity, and even Audi but they don't compare to my car, my plane, or my boat. I also know that our nurses have nice lifestyles. Good for them. Audi does make some great cars. But nothing that they make excites me too much. A good friend had a A8 and it is a fine car. Just nothing to get excited about.

This is the attitude of many central coast people that are in a job that requires any training or education. Is it an insecurity or need to be special or elite? To compete with the celebs? This is what I got from it: blah ...pay...blah blah...brand drop brand drop ...blah...my car, my plane, or my boat....blah blah.
Be real. Why pick on a nurse if you are so high falootin'?

The tar on the beach in Santa Barbara is partly from natural seepage. I am some what comforted that there are people who hate SB - who don't want to spend any time there. Finding a parking place at Henrys beach is hard enough without places taken up by people hating being there! Pass the word - stay away from SB. Don't even drive through Hope Ranch! Maybe you would like Lancaster - I hear they need people. Lots of peopleless homes instead of homeless people.

Didn't think I was picking on her. Maybe you should re read each post this time. I never brought out money untill after the OP did.
The OP stated her dislike of the area. She gave her ideas and many of us responded that we did like the area.
In my first post I stated that Oprah has a home in the area. I also responded in my first post that the area had many upscale auto dealerships.
The OP stated that Oprah lives on an estate and that most places have the same and that she drove an Audi and the area had a small Audi dealership.
I responded that for those who don't like the position that they are in to change it. No one gave Oprah her home, she earned it. I also mentioned that maybe the area wasn't for a travel nurse. Now I know what a travel nurse makes being in the medical industry. She is correct that she makes good money, but maybe not for the Santa Barbara area.
I also stated that Audi was an entry level luxury car at best. I stand by that statment. For me the car does nothing.
The OP didn't like my position and stated that I don't know her financial position and that she probably made more than me.
I told her she is correct that I don't know her financial position but I do know the pay scale for nurses in the area. To qualify my statement I did do a little bragging. Sorry for that. Remember I did not in anyway bring out my position untill after she brought out hers.
Lets not forget that the OP has the ability to drive an Audi but not the ability to live in Santa Barbara as she chooses. She can't afford an estate. I mentioned if she didn't like her position to change it. Let me add that complaining will not change the position someone has in life. You can talk all you want. Actions are more benefitial to changing something than complaining about it. Then again as the OP stated maybe she would be happier in another area.

When I lived in Hawaii I ran into travel nurses all the time. They were always in a bad mood from being crammed in four to an apartment and spent a lot of time haunting the bars in Waikiki trying to make the best of their limited time. When people describe themselves as "bored" it indicates (to me) a certain lack of inner resources. This person would be bored anywhere and should consider being evaluated for depression. If I could live anywhere SB would definitely be on the short list!

I would be very interested to know what makes of cars you consider to be above "entry-level".
Also I have to agree,, sounding off on your car and boat, etc does nothing except make you seem like a braggart, and those people who own "just" an Audi, BMW or the like are below you in importance simply because you own what you consider to be a better car.
BUT... having said that, you recognized that you probably were bragging a bit and apologized, which was good of you. However you seem to have reached a financial position that you worked hard to obtain, and therefore you probably deserve to brag a little bit!
I also happen to agree with you, that many people tend to just complain about their position financially, instead of doing something about it. I was in a bad way financially just 2 years ago, but I have worked hard and paid off bills, etc,, and now am in a better position for the future. I quit my whining and DID something!!

There are people in Santa Barbara who care about money/power/influence/manicures, and make no qualms about such, and then there are real people there. It's a small town. The real people live and work there. The snobs are transient*.
*Interesting - the snobs who hate the 'transients' around town, are so themselves.
Ah, yes. So goes the timeless, pointless, silly class warfare.
Oh, and my car is better than your car.

I was wrong and I appologize to all. So sorry for my thoughts and all.
As far as Audi, if you love it then great. They do build an amazing car. Like I said in another post a friend has an A8 and he loves it. It is a nice car to cruse around in. For me the styling of the car looks similar to others on the market and it doesn't do much for me personally. The A8 is a fast car though and gets the job done. Like I said it just doesn't do anything for me personally though in the looks department. Like many cars it will get you to the resteraunt but no one is going to turn their head to see who is getting out.

There's a lot of truth in this statement. I've said it before on SB threads here that you cannot judge so easily who has and does not have money in Santa Barbara. Some of the most unassuming people, walking around in old jeans and t-shirts, driving old pickup trucks, are the heirs of old money and lots of it. Those who give the appearance wealth through cars and wardrobe may be so only by appearance. These types are very often short-timers in SB.

This is true about most any place. I live in an affluent area and a lot of the folks here with lots of money don't drive around in flashy cars or wear flashy clothes. In fact, they don't want you to know they have money.
