Lake Tahoe Relocation??
Looking for opinions on which side or part of the lake to move to, North, South. Retired, so work is not a factor. I have been to the South and it has alot of everything, but still not convinced that that is the side to be on just yet. I like the outdoor activities, music, and nightlife. I live on Colorado now, so I know what weather is like.

I found more amenities in the north. Reno is the largest small town after all, Sacramento is a hour and a half away.

Great, can you expand on the north having more amenities? I am starting to favor the north anyway.

no matter which side you pick, it is only about a 30-45 minute drive to the other side of the lake.
that being said, i would probably LIVE on the north side. the south side is more fun and has more amenities, but you can easily live on the north side, and go party on the south side (hotel rooms are really cheap at some hotels too). the north would typically have far less traffic and tourism, it has more of a towny feel. SLT is pretty touristy, with the casinos and all, it would be hard to call homey. the north side isnt like that.
im wondering if ferret is confused on the sides of the lakes. South Lake Tahoe is the side with the casinos, in the border. the north side is the side in Nevada. The north side has far less going on than the south side.

Lake Tahoe isn't cheap and jobs are aren't plentiful as well. Forget the activities part, its everywhere in Lake Tahoe on either side. You can drive to Reno, Carson City as well. Make sure you have cash, job and shelter because this area is very expensive.

I've lived on both sides, several years on the south. Yes it's touristy (even more now than when I lived there), but there are so many neighborhoods where you can live off the beaten path. I loved my home in the Gardner Mountain area -- quiet and lovely, yet short blocks from main thoroughfares.
In the north and west shores (I lived in Tahoe City) there is less tourism, but the snowfall is greater, and the fewer amount of roads can and has led to TERRIBLE gridlock in the cases of accidents and roadwork. If you're not in a hurry to get to work and content to be at home, it's a great area. And on the Nevada side there is no state tax, but daily goods can get pricey.
Each area has their pros and cons -- I would be back in South Shore in a heartbeat if it were fiscally possible Good luck in your decision!
