Default Moving to Santa Barbara: Best neighborhood for renting an apartment?

My husband and I will be moving to Santa Barbara in a month and a half for school. While we will be using a relocation company to help search for a good, affordable 1-bedroom apartment to rent, I wanted to find out if anyone here can recommend a safe neighborhood with access to public transportation, and if possible, close proximity to Brooks Institute?

Hoping for your replies!

I would stay away from Santa Barbara (see my previous post haha). But, I here a lot of great things about Carpenteria. I have several friends there who live in apts and they seem to enjoy the little area. Not sure if it's close to your school though.
