I cannot help you with your search, but I think it's interesting that you are "starting over". Starting over from what? You're 19!! Your life as an adult is just beginning!

Starting over at 19?

Dude, by the time a man becomes a true adult man he's at least 40 years old. You're gonna have a tuff time bro.... but I wish ya luck! Try renting around Riverside, a small community east of Los Angeles. Young Male + Poor + California = Hard Times. Trust me! I been there, done that...and it ain't no fun! I can't explain it.... but you might luck out!

Hey bro, I just turned 43 and I am just know beginning to figure out how life works!

GO FOR IT!

Affordable would be referring to something a 19 year old and a 20 year old who are supporting themselves entirely (or at least trying to) could afford, for example in Danbury, Connecticut affordable would be around $1000-$1250 for a two bedroom apartment.
The unemployment rate in CA is high. The economy is very poor. Retail jobs, restaurant jobs, etc. will be few and far between. These types of establishments are closing--not hiring. Construction has slowed down considerably, too.

Stay where you are and get a skill-maybe some type of medical tech skill, since those jobs might still be available these days. Then you could look for a job here BEFORE moving and, if you secure a job, move out here at that point.

Haha well thank you for the supportive words, but I'm not going to be alone, a very good friend of mine and possibly a second one of the same make will be coming with me and the place I found in Alameda is only $1600 a month which would work out pretty well based on the jobs I was able to find in the area on craigslist. In answer to the questions "starting over from what!?", well I don't really have any family to lean on for support and the last apartment I had with an ex-college roomate and his girlfriend left me screwed as they proved incapable of holding jobs and thus paying for rent or any bills. So now I've been staying with a friend of mine and her family but I can't stay here too much longer than I already have. The job situation here is crap and I owe $13,000 to Westconn (a college here in Danbury) due to financial aid sufficiently screwing me over. So I've pretty much had it with Connecticut alltogether and the **** that I've had to put up with here as well and I've always wanted to live in California so I decided now would be the ideal time while I am still young and have that kind of freedom to just pick up and move to a completely different place and start over in the hopes of finding something better. It's also alot warmer in Southern California than in frigid ole' Connecticut haha.

I can't possibly return to college until I raise my credit enough to take out alternative loans and pay back what financial aid has demanded of me under the penalty of not being able to return to my schooling until I have paid it all off as it is so that rules out pursuing any kind of medical tech in the near future. I WAS going to school with a major in psychology and the hopes of continuing on to medical school to be licensed as a psychiatrist by the way.

So, you're in DEBT with bad credit scores and you're planning a move to an area with a high cost of living, high unemployment, and a poor economy, and you have no job skills and no job prospects?

There has GOT to be a better solution that your current plan.

Alameda is cool. It's a great location for access into Oakland Berkeley and SF.
Alameda is an island in the Bay though, so your beach is not Pacific, but it's close enough!

Where in Alameda is it?

I see a disaster unless you are coming with AT LEAST 10k.......a job already lined up would be recommended, too.
