More people leaving the state than entering this year
Just heard on my favorite AM station that more people are leaving than entering the state. In 2010 we may end up losing a member of Congress because of reaportionment. Not that losing a couple hundred thousand hurts us too much. I think that plenty of people live in the state and chances are we wont even feel the loss.
Problems that were mentioned on the radio station were the high amount of forclosure homes, high state tax rate of all kinds, illegal imigration problems, problems with our legislature and and the state Government in general with passing a budget, low performing schools.
personally I think that the forclosure problem is good for the state. I am in the market for a home and read a report that the Los Angeles area could see prices decline another 15 to 30 percent this year. The good thing is that it is projected the decline will bottom out the market making it a great time to buy. Taxes are a problem that I don't like, but then again I know what I am facing here. Prefer a decline if it could happen. Illegal imigration is a problem that many states face. In Arizona, Texes and other states that many "flee" to they will not get away from illegal immigration anyway, so it is a non issue that I am not too concerned about because I can't end it. The Government can and won't. Problems within the legislature are also something that I can't fix other than at the ballot box. So for me it is a non issue. The school issue is something that parents can change. As a parent I take an active part in the education of my kids. My kids perform well within the public school system. At the same time my wife and I are a part of the solution. Many parents complain about the schools that their kids attend. At the same time I am wondering how many are working with the teachers to insure that their kids are accomplishing something in school. We don't need more money tossed out into the school systems, we need more parents to take an active role in the education of their kids.
That being said, I think the state is a great place to live and has plenty of opportunities for someone willing to make a go of it. What do you think?

Good. I hope everyone who is so unhappy here leaves. There are a lot of us who are die-hard Californians who will always love it here and want to enjoy our lives here. We don't need all the naysayers and negative people. My family are like that. The sooner they leave the better!

While I agree, it doesn't seem to matter if they leave or not. They just bash California from their new home states. Some of them post here more than they do their own home state forums just so they can complain about California.
Sometimes I think they should rename this the California bashing forum ... rather than just the California forum ... because people love to complain about this state so much.

I am so glad people are leaving my native land. Now maybe I can get a chance to return and buy a home. We have felt like gypsies moving around the Pacific Northwest when really our hearts were left in California.
Both our parents moved to So. Cal. from the midwest in the 50's. Most of their children (me)had to leave because of high home prices. Still many of our younger relatives that didn't want to leave CA are still in apartments. They don't have quite enough money to afford a million dollar home. Although, they have good jobs and college degrees. Now, they are happy to know that finally they are getting a chance at the American Dream.
So only 144,000 people are leaving a year from a article I read. That means 38 million California residents aren't doing too shabby. Times are tough everywhere. You just need to pick your favorite state to struggle in. It helps being in a place where people are generally kind. The sun shining helps a little too.
So, with that said we are heading home.

Exit doors?
I grew up in Orange County (yep, played in the abundant orange groves in my youth), rode bikes to Disneyland and to the beach, and have a lifetime of fond memories. I'm living on the Central Coast now and think the Golden State is a golden as ever. For me, I'll spend the rest of my days in California and never regret a milli-second of it!
As we speak, I'm planning a summer vacation up the coast through the Sacramento Valley to Oregon, across to Hwy 101 and south through the redwoods. I'm heading off to Big Sur in a month on a camping trip and spent last spring in the desert photographing wildflowers. When I get time, I kayak along the Santa Barbara coast (no, not rich, I live on a shoestring budget)! Now what was it about California that sucks?
I've travelled plenty and even lived out of state for awhile. California continues to be the envy of the nation. I can't help but reflect on the sentiments of my coworkers in Virginia when I told them I was leaving and going back home to California. I must have 100 people tell me they wish they were going with me! I know why!

Yep,
I just saw this today.............
"The number of people leaving California for another state outstripped the number moving in from another state during the year ending on July 1, 2008. California lost a net total of 144,000 people during that period — more than any other state, according to census estimates. That is about equal to the population of Syracuse, N.Y.
The state with the next-highest net loss through migration between states was New York, which lost just over 126,000 residents."
California is in for tough times as the taxpayers leave the state.
Colorado? Anyone?

You all are missing what wasn't clearly and obviously stated; births and immigration(legal and illegal) is causing the state to grow.
Also, many of the people who are leaving(such as myself) pay a lot of taxes.
The people you want here should first and foremost be good and honest people, which I think most people are. And secondly you want people who contribute more through taxes than they take out of the system, which I think this state is getting too many of.

Good Riddance, let them go be happy in their 5000 sq foot house in the middle of nowhere with winters that hit sub zero temps. The illegal immigration thing is an excuse, it does not even affect my quality of life. Please explain how that has any impact on anybody personally? Stop living above your means and you'll make it here. How do the millions of other middle class people do it?
Life is more than a giant home and low taxes.
