Default Drug problem in Rincon Valley, Santa Rosa schools?

We are thinking of moving to Rincon Valley in Santa Rosa with our young children. Since I hear that there is a gang problem in parts of Santa Rosa, I am curious if there are any gang related problems Rincon Valley. Do gang members live w/i Rincon, or do gang members hang out around there? I know it's naive to think that any high schools are drug free, but does anyone know if there is a drug problem at Maria Carrillo High & if so how bad? Or in the jr. highs? Thx.

Sonoma County isn't Los Angeles or even Sacramento if that's what your asking. Do gang members live in Rincon Valley ? Of course they do. You'll primarily find Norteno or Sureno gang members all throughout Santa Rosa and Sonoma County. Rincon Valley has it's pockets of run down, lower income apartments and older homes where you can find the elements for gang breeding grounds. That being said, Maria Carrillo probably has a smaller problem than other high schools in the city with regards to gang problems. No place is immune. Hopefully you've taught your kids well, your involved in their lives, they have "good" friends and if all applies, it shouldn't be a problem wherever you move.

Thank you so much for your help. I've only been to S.R. a few times, so it's nice to get some inside info.

Rincon Valley isn't bad. The neighborhoods you really want to avoid are South Park and Roseland. Some areas near the Coddingtown Mall are pretty bad as well.

About 15 years ago I lived with some step brothers and sisters. They were teenagers. They smoked alot of pot, occasionally they used speed. I did neither. I would say at least 25% of the teenagers smoke pot, it is very accepted here. We were all nice middle class people. And I think Sonoma county lets you grow two plants. I mean if you are a pot smoker then you will think that is ok, but if you are coming from another state then that might seem disturbing.
