Doesn't mean it will happen but a restarted Gottschalks remains possible.
Also you may not have seen this article from an independent paper in Visalia, it speculates about some of the Central Valley stores.
Valley Voice Newspaper (http://www.valleyvoicenewspaper.com/vv/stories/2009/vv_nowwhat_0004.htm - broken link)
and there is also this article:

and i doubt gottschalks will be restarted. i dont know about dillards buying any locations...i heard that they arent doing good money wise.

JcPenney's, TJ'Maxx, and Macy's are all looking into the SLO spot. They didnt mention a Belks, Dillards, Target, or Wal-Mart going there. There you have it, Macy's is coming to SLO. TJ Maxx is looking into Irish Hills Plaza, and a possibility of JcPenney's going downtown.
~Atascadero is getting a new cinema, and a Super Wal-Mart. Not to mention they got a Big!Lots and getting a Tractor Supply Co. soon.
~SLO is getting a Target and Kohl's. And soon a JcPenney's and a TJ'Max. And perhaps 24 hr fitness.
~Paso Robles is getting a Lowe's.
Forever 21 has placed bids on a number of Gottschalks stores. They are requesting that the bankruptcy court designate them the stalking horse bidder on these stores.
As stalking horse they would have an advantage in the auction at the end of the month since other bidders would have to pay a 2% breakup fee to Forever 21.
Court documents indicate that Forever 21 intends to operate stores in these locations. But most of these are larger than the current Forever 21 stores so it will be interesting to see the format they envision.
The store locations that Forever 21 seeks are:
San Luis Obispo
Santa Maria
Chico
Davis
Yuba City
Sacramento Country Club Plaza
Visalia
Hanford
Bakersfield Valley Plaza
Modesto Vintage Fair
Fresno Fashion Fair
Fresno Riverpark
Riverside
Hemet
Yakima, WA
Anchorage, AK
Sorry the city, looks like Macys will have a higher hurdle to beat now to end up in SLO.

That is if their bid goes through. Even if we don't get Macy's in this county, then there is a possibility of us getting an Ecko Untitled outlet clothing store at the oulets in Pismo Beach. This way we get urban fashion without a Macy's or a mall. If Tulare got an Ecko Untitled, then we have a good chance of getting one here.
I also have seen that I am not the only one who considered WalMart a possible buyer for the SLO store. This came out a few days, just before Forever 21's offer was made public.
"According to the San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce, Wal-Mart is one of several retailers seeking to fill the gutted remains of the building formerly owned by Gottschalks. Other potential bidders include Macy’s and JCPenney. Chamber President David Garth said knowledgeable industry insiders disclosed the bidders." Im glad we didnt get a Wal-Mart at least.
JcPenney's is taking the spot where Linens N Thins & Circuit City was
TJ'Maxx is going to be next to the new Target
Target is on it's way in 2010
Forever 21 is replacing Gottschalks
Kohl's coming is coming in Fall
Sears is already here
so i guess, its not too bad for SLO. Visalia is in the same boat. They are also getting a forever 21. and its not like every area has to have a Macys. Marin County and San Francisco County don't have a JcPenney's. And San Francisco doesn't have a Sears too. But they do have Macy's which sells ecko untitled and baby phat urban fashion. And, Sears and JcPenney's sell Southpole urban fashion. so it equals out.
There are still some behind the scenes things going on with Forever 21's bid. It has to be approved by the court and someone else could still top it in the auction.
They also dropped the Fresno RiverPark store from their bid. The shopping center objected since many of the other tenants in the center have lease clauses that say a full-service upscale department store will occupy that building. Forever 21 doesn't meet that definition.
Some other locations may still fall out of the bid also, depending upon the legal grounds for objections from the shopping centers.
There are also some other companies who may try to beat the bid, we will see how those companies respond to having a higher price due to the breakup fee.
There are also rumors Forever 21 is only bidding on some of the locations in order to sell them to someone else. I don't know how true that is but we will see.

My hopes would be for Macy's or Dillard's to snag the Visalia and San Luis Obispo store.
And I think the stores Forever 21 made a bid for will stay. They placed bids on all the stores no other company would want besides the SLO and Visalia one. And I think Macy's isnt that desperate to get those two stores. The bigger cities stores like the ones in Sacramento, Fresno, Anchorage, and Riverside might have some more competition to get into those heavily populated markets.

You glossing over this whole issue. The damn NIMBY enviro-terrorists are going to hold up and every application in the city of SLO. Just like they have done to poor Dalidio for what, 15 years! The same thing with the wal-mart in Atascadero.
None of these stores will be here anytime soon.
