Can't be done, as the California Constitution expressly forbids the state from declaring bankruptcy.

OTOH a Constitutional Convention for California would be a good idea, as the existing constitution dates from 1879, when the state was a far different place and the overriding goal for that constitution was merely to establish law and order over Old West California. A constitutional convention would be a great way to make California run more efficiently and prevent budget crises like the current one from happening again.

Yeah these political appointees get plum jobs but we're only talking about two people. As bad as you think it is this really isn't much of a drain on the state's coffers compared to the big ticket items in the state budget. Someone seeking to reduce wasteful spending would do better to spend their time crusading after the really fat cows in the budget rather then a $200,000 per year item like this.

It's not only two people but you must agree that committing the state to spend more on duplicative positions in a time when the state should be cutting expenses is a bad thing.
