Default How does he get away with this?

Gov. Schwarzenegger has ordered steep salary cuts for most of the state workforce but has added state legislators and former political aides to the state payroll with six figure salaries. (And we thought Gray Davis was unqualified for his job?) Is there anything the average California taxpayer can do to prevent this type of thing from continuing?

Yeah, and at the same time he is stopping welfare payments to poor women and children. It's immoral...

Arnold is the typical politician. Anything to get into office then ****s on everyone except his elite buddies. English only, "gurly-man".

You guys need to vote in a Democrat governor. Then there will be no more tension between the governor and the Democrat legislature. All will be fine. All problems will disolve. The legislature will write the checks and the governor will sign them. It really would make everything much easier.

It was a Democratic governor and legislature that got CA where it's at now.

McClintock as governor would have restored my faith in California voters and we'd all be better off at this moment.

These things happen when the media decides which candidates will win an office. Do your homework.

Are you referring to the governor or those running for state legislature?

So the Gov cut the pay of the state work force. Many of those people make more in overtime pay then they do from their normal paycheck. This is how it works. A state employee takes a sick day and we the people of the state pay for the sick day. Four hours later their manager can call them into work and guess what? Not only do they get the full 8 hours of sick time, but we the people also get to pay for a full 8 hours of time on top of that, and because now the sick day is counted as one of their work days for the week, the "new day" is counted as overtime and we the people pay them time and a half for the "6th" day of the week that they worked. Some of those people also take a sick day and then report to work on saturday or sunday and we the people pay them time and a half for that day. State employees also get every holiday in the world off and we pay for their time off. If they happen to work one of those holidays we pay overtime for them and pay for an additional day that they can use some where else in the year. Once again if they take the day off and need to come in on a weekend to work you and I pay time and a half for that as well. It is a great gig if you can get it. How many of you are working under a similar situation? Do you have the benefits that these state employees have? We have doubled the number of state employees in the past 10 years. Things are bad in the state and I have yet to see any state employees get laid off. Our businesses are laying off, the economy is hurting, and the state is acting like things are normal. I think that what Arnold needs to do is eliminate many of the positions, including the cushy jobs his friends have, cut the pay of the entire legislature, and act like their is a financial problem within the state government. Private enterprise has to do that to stay alive. Why can't we ask our public servants to do the same? Don't they work for us? The problem with eliminating the state employees is that they have a union. Have fun making changes their. Maybe the only way to change it is to bankrupt the state and start all over.
