I just retired in Oct, so I won't even be eligible for my first COLA till May 2012 (asuming there is still a functioning state government by then...)

Well, Gurbie, it ain't functioned for years but the checks still keep coming. I retired in 2008, got a COLA in 2009, got nothing in 2010 and am obviously not gonna get much in 2011. So be it!

Well, I am for ONE very happy over all this flap. FINALLY my ship has come home:

I am 47, however, my city is offering me a 3 year, Golden Handshake (3 yrs added to my pension to leave now). That means, I shall retire in November of this year, with an annual pay of 94k, with a 2.8 percent cost of living increase every year. AND, my medical will be paid for, for the rest of my life.

Geez, I thought I was going to stay until 55. Now, I get to leave at 48. Life is good and wonderful (my wife gets an even better deal).

I'm in my second year of no COLA for Social Security. I'd appreciate if anybody helps you out that you could help me too. Please send me a PM so that I can provide you with my PayPal details.

Or the army expression (I never served in the military), my heart pumps purple urine* for you.

That's correct, the nice lady at CalPers who helped me with my paperwork explained that there was no COLA adjustment in 2010. It's tied to the CPI-no inflation, no COLA.

They weren't passing out handshakes of any color where I worked. I did the full 30 years, plus four days, and retired a few weeks shy of my 57th BD.

I'm assuming your agency figured out they'd save money by tossing you out of the plane a little short of the runway?

This isn't getting me riled up .. I want you guys to keep it up .. The faster you guys drain the coffers, the more substantial and faster reform will come. ~40% of my income is put away in tax deferred shelters anyway which California wont see a penny of. So burn rome down for all I care. LOL. When the reform comes and your checks stop flowing just make sure not to protest like the babies in Wisconsin. The tax extensions wont be approved so you can add another -12.5 billion to the states bill. Keep it up guys

ahhahahahah
