Cool Christmas Lights
I think you're right about the name... it was something Lane. For some reason... I still think it had "School" or "School House" in the name. This place wasn't in the valley... it was somewhere between Bellflower/Lakewood and Norwalk or Whittier. LOL... I was just a kid, sitting in the back seat (without seatbelts! ) in my grandparents car... I didn't really have a clue where I was going.... But, It was really cool![/quote]

They are long gone now, though. There are a few A&W restaurants that have sprung up recently, in connection with other YUM franchises (KFC/Taco Bell/Pizza Hut/Long John Silver's).
The only tropical drink place I remember in Laurel Plaza was the old Orange Julius kiosk outside the Ice Capades. The Blue Surprise may have been there before my time.

Oh my gosh... I do remember the drink place at Laurel Plaza. It had seating inside....kind of a tropical/Hawaian decor. I remember you could order shakes or drinks with all kinds of flavors... Pineapple/banana/strawberry/coconut. I remember when all that was there was May Co....then Laural Plaza.. Guess it's back to just the department store now.
Do you remember Sears just to the north? There was a popular cafeteria between Sears & J.C. Pennys. I remember the Sears store had a candy counter, with popcorn and hot nuts.
Does anyone remember getting ice cream cones...5 cents a scoop at Savon or Thrifty Drugs? Raspberry Wave!
I remember having lunch with my grandmother at Thrifty Drug Store or the counter at Newberry's Dime Store.... hot dogs and drinks in those cone cups in the metal stands..... McDonalds was gourmet compared to that!

Does anyone else remember these little booths sitting by the side of the road in many areas? They were a drive up film developing company, but they seem to have disappeared about the time the one hour photo places showed up. For that matter, does anyone even remember developing film? LOL!

Haha, LOL! I used to work at one, back in the summer of '83! Yes, they disappeared pretty quickly once all the drug stores and grocery stores started developing film.

Your correct, Matt & Tonys is still there. I was in there about two weeks ago.

On the other side of the freeway to the north, and on the other side of Sepulveda is the Bear Pit. It has also been there for as long as I can remember.

That's right...I do remember this place. If I recall, when you entered the entrance off of oxnard, the drink place was the first business on the left.

I took my kids to Farrell's last Friday when we were in SoCal on vacation. It is in Santa Clarita in sort of an amusement center. The exterior looks like a warehouse but the interior resembles the classic Farrells of the 1960s and 1970s. There are also lots of old photos of kids' birthday parties from the 1970s.
On the wall (near the restrooms) are original menus from 1968 (I think) and 1980.
In 1968 the Zoo was like $6 or $7 but it said it only served 6.
In 1980 a Zoo was $10 but it advertised serving 10.
Today a Zoo is $49.95 and a trough is I think $10 or $12, maybe $14, I forgot.
Farrell's!* The Fun Is Back!!

Check out this Zoo video from 1974

I have been looking everywhere for a photo of Pop's Willow Lake - could you post one or email me one? I grew up in Glendale/Burbank in the 40s & 50s and have so many happy memories - what a great place to grow up! Thank you, stillonlyonejudy@gmail.com

How about Dick Hugg (Huggy Boy "Come down to the pad Dad where the musics never sad) ??
