Music Plus - music and video store. I used to work at the one on Indian Hill Boulevard in Pomona. I worked there for about 4 years between '89 - '94; it was one of my favorite jobs. Then Blockbuster bought the chain and it was downhill from there...
I visit the old neighborhood to see my Mom and the building where Music Plus once was is now vacant.

I remember it only by name (heard on the radio). I don't recall ever visiting a Licorice Pizza. I don't think I ever saw one of their stores now that I think about it...

I know there was a Licorice Pizza in North Hollywood, near Victory and Laurel Canyon. I don't recall what became of it, though.

There was one on Topanga Canyon Blvd across the street from Topanga Plaza. I remember buying Rush and Zeppelin albums there in the 1970s and 1980s.

There was also one on Lake Avenue in Pasadena, above Colorado Blvd. The last time I was in there was probably the early 1980's. I had completely forgotten about Music Plus. Remember when you could choose "Beta" or "VHS" for your video rental? And video rental stores charged a membership fee of around $50 (back then that was a lot of money) just to belong? We actually had a Beta videocassette player for a short time...what a poor investment.

I must have totally missed them. I didn't start driving until about the late 80's so I didn't get the chance to explore LA as much as I do these days.
In regards to money/technology, I remember buying my first CD player, a Toshiba, for about $400!! These days, something like that with longer battery life, less susceptibility to skipping, and more functions goes for, what, $29 at Wal-Mart? Anyway, to motivate me to buy one, I bought three CDs first and used them as an excuse to buy the player. The CDs were Signals and Moving Pictures by Rush and Big Generator by Yes.

I don't remember which album was my first CD, probably one of the Beatles albums, but I remember how expensive it was and after reading a story in the paper about how record companies were promising CD's would drop to the price of cassettes within a year as the volume of CD's produced increased I decided to hold off on buying another. Needless to say, I waited many years before buying my second CD and it was for the same price as my first CD.

Now that we have the internet, we don't have problems like that anymore....
I'm not telling you to copy music and I'm not telling you to go to the library and copy the CDs using Windows Media Player to WMA or MP3 and I'm not telling you to go to Pirate Bay and torrent download just about any movie or CD ever created.....but now that we have the internet, we don't have problems like that anymore....
