I was born in Los Angeles in the mid 1960s.
I remember quite a few things from as little as about 4 years old til maybe when I was a teenanger.
These things I believe as definately in the past.
Seven Seas in Hollywood I believe. I was about 5 or so and seen Don Ho live.
I recall the pictures of the hula dancers and me lol about 5 years old.
Tokyo Kaikan was a cool authentic Japanese Food Restaurant with low dining tables you can squat down to eat.
Sarah mentioned the McDonalds but I dont know how she knew I went there. As far as I know it is still there so I guess to mention it just cause the building is one of its kind, the original McDonalds
architecture. It was or is located off Firestone and Florence Ave I believe. Sarah gave me a nice picture in the message. I wasnt sure if it was copyrighted or anything, it was from the downey, ca website i think.
I recall things some others mentioned as well. Lion Country Safari was one, Busch Gardens, Japanese Gardens as well.
I remember Little Joes up until I believe the 1980s in CHinatown. It was a popular L.A. Dodger players spot. (I also remember the Union 76 antenna balls)
Helms truck used to come up my street, it would be like 1969-1970 when i was about 4 or 5.
Does anyone go to Johnnys Shrimp Boat. The original Location was soewhere downtown L.A. and I heard from my mom when I was a kid, they tore it down to prepare a parking lot lol.
There are a few now, one on Whittier Bl, and another on Washington Bl in Whitter.
How about Chicken Delight? I think it was a acombination restaurant with something else, perhaps pizza or something??? help me, I must have had been really young, becuase I have faint memories of it.
I recall music plus, and other fun places too.
When I was little, 1st to 3rd grade, we had a Helm's Truck also! My favorite thing to get was a cream puff.
Kate, thanks so much for the info, I loved Little Joes, too bad it is now just a memory for some.
Helms: my older daughter loved the creme puffs, I love the choc donuts. Now, they would make me barf i think.
Busch Gardens was a favorite place to take our friends when they visitied, especially if they have little kids cause the parrot acts and things like that were so much fun.
Lots of the places you mentioned bring back good memories.
I'm pretty sure Pizza Man still exists, at least in Pasadena. I do remember the Chicken Delight slogan.
I remember that the bus driver would use a punch on those RTD transfers.
Does anyone remember when the Fort Moore Pioneer Memorial on Hill St., between Chinatown and the court buildings in DTLA would have water cascading over the wall? I used to really enjoy viewing this "waterfall" right in the middle of downtown. Web search seems to show that it was turned off in 1977 due to the water shortage. Is the evaporative loss so high that it can't be turned on again?
Looks like Crazy Gideon's is going out of business. I remember seeing the late night ads with him yelling while strait-jacketed and surrounded by nurses. Either that or smashing TV's.

Can anyone recall the original Busch Gardens, the one on south Grove in Pasadena? It was partly developed in the 30's,but sections existed into the 50's,if I recall. As small boys we would hike to it from our Highland Park homes and play among the ponds and and lawns. The 1948 version of "The Three Musketeers" with Gene Kelly and Lana Turner had scenes filmed here. The dueling sequence that turns into a brawl with the Cardinals men was filmed right in our favorite area. The pond that the guardsman gets pushed into was perhaps my favorite spot. There was an archery range not far away, and we kids spent much time searching for lost arrows.Very rarely did we find one,but it was fun looking.Parts of the Arroyo Seco river in this area were not paved over then, and we could still fish it it.Our catch was usually only stunted bluegill and green sunfish 3 to 5 inches long.

Crazy Gideon's commercials (and his whole schtick) were ripped off of Crazy Eddie's in NY. (Crazy Eddie went out of business years ago and Crazy Eddie himself went to prison for some sort of racketeering related charges)
