I keep reading through these posts and they just trigger more memories:
One person mentioned Jerry Dunphy...but don't forget Christine Lund, Dr. George, Ted Dawson, and the rest of the Eyewitness News Team!
Who remembers Pup n' Taco? Best hot dogs around for the money and put that lousy Der Weinerschnitzel to shame.
How about the ribs at Love's..."When you're in Love's, the whole world's delicious."
Or if you were looking for that pseudo Polynesian experience, you could go to Kelbo's. Seems to me there was one over near the Farmers Market.
Ate quite a bit of Kentucky Fried Chicken, but I think I liked Pioneer Chicken better.
And I am not embarrassed to admit that I am old enough to remember going through the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland when it was brand new.
Buffums Department Store
Never went bowling or ice skating at the Pickwick but saw more than a few movies at the drive-in and swam in the pool.
Watching PSA and Hughes Airwest airplanes taking off from Burbank Airport. Loved those yellow planes that Hughes had.
I remember when California license plates were black with yellow letters and numbers. And from there they went to blue with yellow letters and numbers.
And of course, odd and even days to fill up your gas tank.
Governor "Moonbeam" Jerry Brown driving himself around in Plymouth Satellite instead of riding in a limousine.
Now that's the California I remember.

Up until the mid 70s, PSA used to fly L-188 Electas in and out of Burbank Airport. These were four engine turboprops that were built by Lockheed. I remember seeing these when I was a kid, but they were soon replaced by DC9s and 727s. PSA had a smile painted on the front of each of their planes. PSA also had at least one L-1011 at one time that they flew into Burbank occasionally, though I don't know if it was a commercial flight, or to have it worked on, since it was built by Lockheed, who's plant was there at the time.
Hughes Airwest had bright yellow planes with a blue three diamond logo on the tail, as I recall.
If I remember correctly, the only other airline that flew into Burbank at the time was Continental. Some years later, Western and United started flights into Burbank, then some of the others joined in later.
Living near Burbank Airport was pretty neat as a kid, because we got to see all kinds of planes flying in and out, because of the Lockheed plant at the airport. I remember seeing S-3As, P-3 Orions, L-1011s, C-5A Galaxies, C-141 Starlifters, C-130 Hercules, and the occasional U-2. Lockheed once had an open house where they had each of these, plus a P-38 Lightning, an SR-71, a Jetstar, an F-104 Starfighter, a Vega, a Constellation, a B-17 Flying Fortress, and a P-80 Shooting Star.

Couple people mentioned Thousand Oaks and Jungleland... I keep thinking about having to drive to Ventura to go shopping with my mom back when 101 was a little 2 lane tree lined highway. We used to explore the Arroyo Conejo starting from this big field that would eventually become the Oaks Mall. Still remember getting balloons and free food the day the mall opened. My mother was so happy to not have to drive so far to get us school clothes.
Somebody mentioned Winchell's Donuts, oh god I'd kill for one of those now. We have some ok donuts here and then there's the ultra disgusting Krispy Kremes but Winchell's will always be what a donut should be to me. They were always so good with the milk that was delivered to your house. I tell people about that now and they always ask how old I am because they can't believe milk was still being delivered in the 70's.
Speaking of delivered food... remember Charles Chips? Fresh cookies delivered weekly to your doorstep in a round tin.
Anyone remember Liquor Barn. That store was way ahead of its time. I always loved going there with my dad to stock up on Olympia beer. I'm certainly glad his taste in alcohol has improved since then.
When I was older my friends and I would frequently head down to the Country Club in Reseda. I can't even count how many bands we saw there. Some of my fondest memories were getting hot and sweaty at the concert and then having to drive back to Thousand Oaks in the back of a pickup truck during winter. It wasn't fun then but remembering how we thought we were going to freeze to death makes me crack up now.

Check out the photos at the Thousand Oaks Library. Lots of old photos from the 1960s on. Get to the catalog and click on "Photo Gallery". Hope the link below works:

Villa Cabrini
Someone mentioned Villa Cabrini in this blog. I had the quite awful misfortune to have boarded there from 1956-7 and am anxious to know more about it. Does anyone have any info on Villa Cabrini? Thanks, Casey
