Default Medicaid questions

I currently live in Louisville KY, where I adopted a child with special needs. Because of his special needs he gets a medicaid card until he is 21. In addition he receives a service in KY called IMPACT PLUS its a funding source through medicaid that pays for residential services, counseling etc. I am looking to move back to California and want to know how the medicaid would work there. My understanding is that CA is not part of inter-state compact, so his Kentucky medicaid card wouldn't automatically convert to CA medical card. I was told we would have to find providers in CA that would agree to enroll in KY medicaid program. Yeah right! My child is on medication alone that cost almost 2000.00 a month. No way I can afford that or find all the speicalist he needs that would agree to enroll in KY medicaid. Does anyone have any knowledge oe experience in this area? Thank you for your help.

You might want to check out the forums at www.fosterparents.com there are many adoptive parents who have dealt with the interstate issue.

It's my understanding that since he is already adopted, that CA would accept the medicaid, you shouldn't have to do an interstate thing since you've already adopted him. Who told you that?

I'd also try contacting CA's medi-cal program http://www.dhs.ca.gov/mcs/medi-calhome/FAQs2.htm I believe this is what he would qualify under...if you are receiving adoption assistance payments, it appears that he qualifys.

Good luck!
