No problem, Canibeyou. If I'm wrong, I'll own up to it. Thank you for pointing out the distance between those cities.

alize001, I am in the same boat as you. My husband is taking a job at the base. It sounds like you and I have been doing the same research. After my initial search I told my husband the kids and I would not be moving. I think I've gotten through the anger I first felt. We are seriously considering Tehachapi. In fact, my husband leaves tomorrow to move down. The rest of us won't be going until summer (school issues). If you have any good info to share would love to hear.

One of my family member works at Edwards, and commutes from santa clarita on a daily basis from tues-friday, takes 40mins tops.
We have looked into west palmdale many times in the past, but since the house prices have tanked, no doubt its going to get worse. Criminals will no doubt will be able to move in next door in the well to do neighborhoods. My advice is to look elsewhere. One thing i have felt whilst twice shopping in palmdale/lancaster was that you had to keep your witts about in contrast to the very lax and comfortable environment one feels whilst being a santa clarita resident.

I drive from Santa Clarita to Lancaster and that is taking me 45 minutes, EAFB probably 30 minutes more.

I guess it depends on where you live and work. The SCV is spread out and EAFB is huge. I would guess you have at least 70 miles though. If you are doing that in 40 min, that is 105 MPH average.

Wow... vroom~vroom! Speed much?
There really is no need to exaggerate things for people. The drive from Santa Clarita to Lancaster (on the opposite end of Palmdale) is 45.84 miles, taking you 53 minutes to drive it. The distance from Lancaster to No. Edwards is 46.41 miles; taking another 56 minutes.
The good point of that kind of commute is that you're going against traffic.
No need to make it sound like paradise and it can be driven by a normal driver in 40 minutes. Some would find the "no traffic" clause dream enough to want to drive it.
Sorry to state the obvious.

Someone also recommended Rosamond or Tehachepi but I can't locate much info on the latter. Everything I have read about Lancaster and Palmdale has been BAD. Specifically section 8 etc.? Like this article: Lancaster Palmdale section 8 BS | Palmdale | Lancaster | Antelope Valley's Best Local Site Is it true that the area is so bad? Full of section 8? It's practically inconceivable that any area could be so bad and I hope it's not true because this is very depressing for us to have to think about living there if it's true. If anyone could enlighten me I would appreciate it! I am on the verge of begging my husband to turn down the job at this rate.

You can also look at CALIFORNIA CITY its a growing town if you want to see whats going on in Lancaster / Palmdale go to AVpress.com .... good luck

I would start begging if I were you! The California Valley is depressing and Lancaster is Bad. There is a lot of meth use. We live on the coast and I will drive 3 hours to shop rather than 1 hour into the valley to find a mall. It's beyond me why anyone wants to be there.
