I've lived int he AV for ten years. I wish I could sell our house and move out of the Socialist Republic of California. The AV has a very bad crime rate. As a retired peace officer I know most of the cops in the area. Most of those guys live on the far west side or in Tehachapi. If possible look elsewhere unless you would like to purchase our five acres on the west side of Lancaster!

Someone also recommended Rosamond or Tehachepi but I can't locate much info on the latter. Everything I have read about Lancaster and Palmdale has been BAD. Specifically section 8 etc.? Like this article: Lancaster Palmdale section 8 BS | Palmdale | Lancaster | Antelope Valley's Best Local Site Is it true that the area is so bad? Full of section 8? It's practically inconceivable that any area could be so bad and I hope it's not true because this is very depressing for us to have to think about living there if it's true. If anyone could enlighten me I would appreciate it! I am on the verge of begging my husband to turn down the job at this rate.

You must be kidding me or you're so bad that a bad neighborhood is good.
The "west side" in both towns are "bank-owned" and "gang-owned".
Face it, AV will never be anything but the SFV's ghetto.

Not kidding at all. I think you are being a little over dramatic. Neighborhoods all over the country are dealing with foreclosed homes. And gang-owned? Not by a long shot. Some neighborhoods on the east side, yes, I might agree. But like I said before, I've lived here 20 years and never had any sort of problem on the west side. Our current neighborhood is made up of insurance salesmen, folks working out at the base (Edwards), retirees, and several sheriffs/highway patrolmen. We are very happy here.
If you don't like the AV, that's your perogative, but I think you've gone a little overboard in your generalizations.

Lancaster/Palmdale; is a great place, if you want to see your kids run over, shot, stabbed or raped. If you enjoy having a gun stuck in your face, car jacked or shot while loading your groceries; then by all means Lancaster or Palmdale (east or west), is the place for you. If you have any doubts, get a police scanner and get an ear full. The Antelope Valley Press the local newspaper; only reports one tenth of the crime, and only if it happens on certain days. The schools are like a war zone with all the armed gang-bangers roaming the hallways looking for European appearing students to attack!
You can also easily get economically trapped in the Antelope Valley, and this depression is not the first major downturn in the Antelope Valley. You are better off commuting to Ridgecrest where things are more stable; both housing and crime wise. Housing has only taken a 10% dip in Ridgecrest, and unemployment is still below 5%. That could all change when Obama guts the Military; In which case the whole area will get hammered!

You people give racist a bad name at least they're not afraid to say clearly what they mean. The SFV's ghetto? you half-witted elitist wannabe. What's so great about SFV are you kidding me? Mark these words "AV is the place to be". It's all relative.

I just moved to the Quartz Hill area of West Palmdale. VERY nice! I'd avoid anything east of the 14, and Landcaster all together, but if you've ever been to Los Angeles, there's nothing there as dangerous as Inglewood, East LA or Hollywood - heck, 75% of Los Angeles for that matter! Most of the people here saying bad things about it start with "my cousin lives there", or "I heard someone say". Others live in Lancaster. Check greatschools.net.. A good indication of how good the neighborhood is would be seeing how the schools are in the area. Where my kids go to school (Quartz Hill High and Hillview Middle School) are some of the best schools in the state, and the best in the area (next to Leona Valley, where all the millionaires kids go).
Many of the comments here are from racist a-holes who thought they could move to the Antelope Valley to get away from the diversity of California. Sorry guys, keep moving North. WAY North, like to Washington State!

The west side of Palmdale is very nice, and west Lancaster is good too. You really need to come see for yourself that it's not that bad.
We're sitting here with all of our windows and doors open, enjoying the cool evening breeze. All I can hear outside my window is our nightly cricket serenade. Love it.

I have been living in Rosamond for the past 5 months, and I would have to agree, it is a very depressing place to live. Because of not being in a metro area, we have a great deal of limitations to some services (i.e. cable internet, only DSL available) and our cell phones don't work at our home (current plan with verizon). Verizon has told us that Rosamond is a problem area, but are planning on installing some more towers, but they are not able to give us a time frame as to WHEN this would be. So as far as my vote, avoid Rosamond. Heard that California City isn't much better. Talk about being in the middle of no where!!!
