Default Best Place to Live in San Joaquin County

Hi- I've been living and working in Stockton now for almost three years, and I'm getting ready to buy my first house. I would like to live within a 30-45 min commute of Stockton, however I do not want to live in the city itself anymore because of the high crime. What cities would be the best to purchase a home in? I'm leaning towards Tracy or Ripon. Thanks for your help!
