You'll find that on every Internet forum, because anonymity brings out the worst in people. It's the same reason that people in a small town are likely to be more friendly than people in big cities like Los Angeles or New York, because you are less likely annoy somebody and then have to deal with running into them again.

That's one of the various reasons I'm considering relocation away from Los Angeles, to move to a smaller city and hopefully find a bit more of that small town friendliness, a little less of that big city anonymity.

I agree. I prefer smaller town as well for much the same reasons.
