Default Info on Oakdale

We are looking at relocating to the Modesto area from Oregon this summer. We heard Ripon, Oakdale, and Turlock are good options. Is there much as far as shopping in Oakdale? We heard you have to drive out to Modesto for anything decent, but for that size of a city, we find that hard to believe? We tried looking up stores/shopping online for that city and NOTHING came up? What's the deal? We also tried going on "forrent.com" to look for apartments for when we first arrive, and nothing came up? Is there really NOTHING out there? Should we re-think our decision, and look at another nearby city? Thanks for your help!

Default there really is nothing there

there is nothing in Oakdale. Or waterford. Nothing. I don't think Modesto is safe and Turlock is getting worse from what I here it used to be okay and there is alot of shopping in turlock and modesto this post is a little late so you may have already moved good luck.

Check out Riverbank just north of Modesto. It's a small town (with new houses going up) but it's close enough to Modesto for shopping and doing other things.

I had read from many posters on here that Riverbank has gang and crime problems? Is it getting better now, or was it really never that bad?

I know nothing about any gang activity. I use to work in the area until last summer and drove around Modesto, Oakdale, Escalon, Riverbank, etc. and Riverbank seemed like a nice little town from what I could see. New homes were under construction last summer when I went through there. For that matter, Escalon seemed to be a nice little farming town - slow and laid-back with not too much to do in any of these little towns in the Central Valley - better shopping and other activities in bigger places like Modesto.

I live in Turlock and I will NOT STOP until I can move out of this area.

The Central Valley (IMO) SUCKS and is getting worse in every way.

There are gangs, increase of tagging (spraypainting) is getting worse and I a police officer in Turlock actually said, "You have NO idea how bad it is getting."

I moved to Turlock in 1990. It was great then. Like Mayberry on the Andy Griffith show. Now it is overcrowded, hot in the summer and miserable.

If I were you, I would avoid it at all costs!
